Most of the people I know in rural MO who voted for this are only mad because they're being hurt too.
They absolutely voted to hurt others and will do it again.
I don't think that it's a good idea to validate bigotry by pretending we all just wanted what was best but somehow they just got tricked.

The fact that she is married to him, and chooses to stay with someone like that, says a lot about her ethics and morality.
How is whats-his-names and his spouses bigotry less harmful to their children than a parent who takes drugs, or prostitutes to make rent money?

It seems to me that if you put "christian" at the top of your political profile, you fundamentally do not understand the concept of the separation of church and state.
My experience: people who need to tell you they're "christian" do so because they know you won't be able to tell by their actions.
