You are correct. Prior to getting into IT I did electromechanical design - I signed off on the engineering
We might be but I don’t see it. I’ve been in AI training, multiple classes, it’s promising but today the amount of setup and design required to be useful in real world applications is huge add that to people calling any automation AI it’s not all it’s marketed as. I did automated data entry yrs ago
Buttons on screens don’t have a tactile feel and those with vision issues will need something tactile. Can screens do that in the future? Anything is possible but I don’t see that in the next 50 years. I would imagine a variety of tools to interact with a computer based on needs/capabilities
AI is software. Musk could tweak his “AI” to make it “less woke” which created “mechaHitler” and made is less accurate. If a programmer can change it, regardless of how they do it, it’s still software that eventually compiles into machine language
And abilities- forgot that part
I don’t know that you can get rid of things like keyboards or mice - people with speech impediments, or those who don’t want to talk, you need a variety of ways to interact with a computer to accommodate people’s preferences
Also a computer that has the ability to say “insufficient data” instead of making up answers
A friend of my has a severely disabled child. He hit his lifetime max in health benefits before he turned 10. The ACA fixed that. People have forgotten or never understood what all went on before the ACA
Yeah, I think that’s the point - extravagance for the sake of extravagance on your dime - show those little people
That pretty much sums up the whole troll party they threw
This is one of my favorite quotes

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.
There is obviously no nuance there but since I don't see a way to prevent that microtargeting it leads me to getting rid of the electoral collage. The algorithms are a whole other thing. Do you ban them? Can you regulate them? If so how? Do you ban under 21 from social media. Not sure on any of that
I also car a lot about media ownership. And all the algorithms and microtargeting, specifically for elections. Musk microtargeted areas for the 2024 saying to Muslims Kamala is married to a jew and to jews that Kamala was supporting the Palestinians protests at select college campuses.
The media is also fragmented along age lines. Facebook is mostly older people. TikTok has it's generation, so does Instagram and all the others. So something that goes viral might have lots of views but it's still a very narrow slice of the population and is generally within an age range
I've been trying to think of a social network the moved the news cycle and I'm not coming up with anything. "MechaHitler" I would argue was a news cycle about Elon Musk, no X. Media is so fragmented that there is no commons anymore.
So a troll party - very mature of him
How do you/we deal with propaganda- I don’t know. We have far fewer rules on speech- is it possible to force social media companies to remove false/misleading info - probably not- we don’t live in the world of Walter Cronkite is THE news any more
Social media is not going to change anything- it’s going to help people find like people to organize and protest- physically showing up is the road to change
Not to mention a lot (if not most) people living in those farming communities rely on SNAP themselves

May you live in interesting times is, I believe, a Chinese curse
People are stupid - just like allergic reactions the more you get the reaction the worse the reactions become - same with covid - constant or repeated illness makes you weaker not stronger
I keep thinking it’s like the Star Trek episode “Patterns of Force” and trump is the Fuhrer John Gill

Be sure to get to the section where He replaces every word in that post below with its polar opposite - it is dead on, and funny (laughing crying I guess?)
