I think vehicles are contributing to this as well, being more buffered from your environment through height, sound insulation, size makes you less connected to the environment around you. It *feels* more annoying to drive a large vehicle because there is more in the way.

My adult son has been in a walker or wheelchair his entire life, I’ve been directly familiar with accessibility issues for 20 years and shopping carts aren’t even on my list.
