Heading north today to avoid weekend train strikes & ensure I'm in Newcastle ready for my talk in the EDI session of the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium.

I'll be sharing insights into setting up & running a network to improve inclusion of #LGBTQ+ folks in STEM

By encouraging students to explore and celebrate the achievements of LGBTQIA+ professionals in STEMM, we hope to foster a more diverse and representative narrative in these disciplines. Find out more at our website: prismexeter.com/qsc
Why a queer science competition? Evidence suggests that LGBTQ+ students are less likely to be retained within STEMM fields. Their voices and contributions are being lost. We want to celebrate those in the field, showing these students that they matter.

Being telescope director at @uniofexeternews.bsky.social certainly has it's perks, even if it is rather cold - the view is looking out towards the Exe estuary
An Observatory dome sits on the frost covered roof of the slab block of the university of Exeter physics department The sunrise beams over south east Exeter and the Exe estuary. Clouds appear perched on roof tops and in the valley of the estruary

It's my final working day of the year so I'm going fully festive for my tutorials this morning: Xmas jumper and festive chocolates to ease my tutees' pains of getting their midterm results, sketching Minkowski diagrams and finding roots of complex numbers

Thanks - I'll make sure this goes in our Jan newsletter! If there's ever anything else you want including in there, please just ask :)

I'd love to promote this in our prism newsletter, which we send out in the first week of each month to our roughly 270 subscribers - could you send a landscape promo image and a few sentences promoting the event to prismexeter[at]Gmail[dot]com?

Prepped and ready for the trick or treaters tomorrow 👻🎃💀

It's difficult when the play is so one-sided though - City barely left their own half in the second half and their back 5 defended so well so there wasn't much space left to aim for with crosses...or passes from midfield to be fair. They marked Russo completely out the game!
cldaviesastro.bsky.social
It was a much closer scoreline than I was expecting and the two last ditch blocks in the second half were celebrated as much as the goals!

Iiiiiiiits gameday!

Looking forward to getting my first live football fix of the season as Bristol City Women host Arsenal Women this evening. Just the 80odd miles to traverse first as the M5 is shut at Taunton!
