Rolls them over and tickles their belly?

I should clarify, Russian Navy warships and submarines are not operating out of Tartus anymore

Transfer window appears to still be open in the shadow fleet. One of the big names just changed teams:

Marathon, king of the false flags, switches to Gambia.

I think that there’s a serious point re the tenability of the med deployments. The are already becoming a token effort. But there are also signs that Ru might regain a base there even if less suitable than Tartus

Forgot to mention safety and cost, lots of reasons

Nuclear subs routinely do it submerged and can take longer routes
covertshores.bsky.social
They always do it this way. Likely faster (overall) and preserves hull

Crew must hate it though, no fun in a surfaces sub in anything other than calm waters

First rule of OSINT

Know what normal looks like before saying something is abnormal

Yes, and maybe the accident happened. Might even have cut the deployment short. But diesel is relatively safe and cannot be leaking much as it’s proceeding under own power.

Rightly so. Generally high quality reporting without jumping to conclusions

2022 invasion closed route to Black Sea ports plus shipyard in Cyprus. But biggest setback was loss of base in Tartus, Syria.

Russia will hope to establish a base in med, likely in Libya, but taking time
covertshores.bsky.social
It’s routine

Some NATO navies also do this with diesel-electric submarines
covertshores.bsky.social
Don’t know who needs to hear this, but Russian Navy KILO class submarines transiting to/from Mediterranean on the surface are routine. NATO of course watches them closely, as in this photo.

Russia does have increasing difficulty maintaining a presence in Med but this in itself isn’t a big deal
covertshores.bsky.social
Neither, it’s routine.

Londoners!

There are a few tickets remaining for the Trafalgar Day dinner at the National Liberal Club, where the requirement to sit through me talking about the Battle of Trafalgar will be more than outweighed by the excellent food and sea shanty performance 🇬🇧⚓️⬇️
