Been watching Doctor Who for many years. Thirteen is the Doctoriest Doctor. Also enjoy much other telly/movies. Currently on another attempt to get caught up with all the Skulduggery Pleasant novels. Often partake in a bit of Audible and love the graps.

No plans today, so I thought I'd post a little thread about my Doccy Who journey over the years. As there have been quite a few of them. Kicking off with the earliest photos that I still have of me doing #DoctorWho things; Watching my 'big' Christmas present in 1985. And some Nan knitting!
Me watching The Five Doctors in a very Christmassy and very 80's living room. Me proudly displaying a Dalek jumper, knitted by me Nan, featuring some very pixelly looking Daleks!

...think the Master works as a main character. At least not, for me. Sure, they're sometimes placed in a temporary anti-hero role (where there's another baddie at odds with their plans), but ultimately there's still gonna be a lot of innocent supporting characters killed, cos it's the Master.

I love the idea of Jacobi as the Master. And if he'd returned to the show in the role, I'd have been all for it.

That said though, I just can't get into his Big Finish stuff. Though that's not specifically his Master, I'm the same with Missy and Sacha's Master. And I love them too. But I don't...

Thought so.

AEW and WWE will occasionally allow a guy to hit a move on a woman. But they make such a big deal out of it when it happens (as opposed to just treating it as two wrestlers wrestling), it feels like either company giving us proper indie style intergender bouts is still a long way off.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
If it was only the women executing moves on guys, that's been an acceptable norm' for intergender matches in AEW/WWE for years.

But was this a "proper" intergender match, where anyone could be in the ring, regardless of gender? Or was it still officially men in/women out (and vice versa) rules?
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
That's fair. I'm a bit more cynical and probably a little glass half empty.

For me, having more women on the show, but still getting less time (or having to share that time with guys who already dominate the bulk of AEW programming) just feels like lip service.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
Does this mean you're for more women's wrestling in AEW or against it? Genuine question, because Collision was sorta good and sorta bad.

On the up side, women were involved in three matches. But on the down, we only had one proper women's match, plus a 2 min squash and a mixed tag with four dudes.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
Wait, was the mixed tag proper back and forth intergender then?

Or are we talking the standard AEW/WWE model of the men can only wrestle men and the women can only wrestle women, by with a couple of token female to male moves included?

To be fair, I didn't mind the story/plot of Battlefield. But the dialogue and supporting characters are the absolute antithesis of what makes Remembrance so great.

For me, it's absolutely the best classic era story. And yep, that's largely down to how developed the characters are and how real the dialogue feels. Add in some very good action and a rock solid story and it's solid gold all the way.

Which makes it all the more baffling how Battlefield was so bad.

8 times, really. The Queen Of Southside Championship title itself was retired/unified into the RevPro Undisputed British Women's Championship in 2020. The Southside belt was retained, but both belts only represent one title.

And the Owen Hart belt is basically just a trophy.

But 8's still a lot!

I did some deep diving. Mercedes really only holds 8 defendable titles right now. She's (of course) defended the TBS title, and also the CMLL and Rev Pro title (twice this year).

Of the smaller promotions, Mercedes is yet to defend any of the four titles she won between June and August.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
Ten belts.

Eight (defendable) titles.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
So having Mercedes on a show is clearly a big draw. And a promotion being able to call her their women's champion might bring fresh eyes their way.

But it also kinda puts those titles in limbo for the smaller promotions. Mercedes has titles she won in June/July that haven't been defended since #AEW

Half of #AEW and #ROH women's titles have now been held for over a year (2+ for Athena). Red Velvet only dropped the TV title (after a year) due to injury. Subsequently Mina's had just one defense.

Meanwhile, we're not getting much in the way of ongoing feuds or storylines. It's feeling a tad lazy.

I remember seeing this one when it aired. The day before, there had been an ad for the Radio Times, which had included a clip of Remembrance. The next evening, I made sure I was watching BBC1 at the same time in the hope of seeing it again - and instead got this.

I was VERY hyped! 🤯🤯🤯 #DoctorWho

I had a couple as a kid. There was a sci-fi shop not far from me back then, and I'd pick up any Doctor Who stuff they got in with me paper-round/Saturday job wages!

Including two Doctor Who RPG's that I had no clue how to play, nor anyone in my social circle who would have wanted to anyway! 😁
Some of my 80's Who collection, including two Doctor Who Role Playing Games in the bottom right corner, at least one of which I'd purchased thinking that it was a standard board game. I had no clue what RPG's were back then and was baffled the first time I read the instructions!

They subsequently rented a VCR. But only watch one movie every 24 hours.

Now they're day vid ten ants.

I don't really think of it as an all encompassing thing. It's a bunch of different telly shows, most of which I've enjoyed over the years.

And I do think it can be whatever it wants to be. For me, my opinion on an episode is basically "Was that good or not?" rather than "Was that Star Trek or not?"
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
True. It felt obvious to me, cos off the top of me head, I could only remember four New Who stories with scenes on a train. And three of those are either in other countries or in space 😄
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
I'll have to try roulette then, cos by that analogy, I've been winning every week.

And when Subspace Rhapsody aired, I won the house. Assuming that's a thing in gambling. It sounds like it is. Or should be. Basically, Strange New Worlds is great. And Rhapsody is the best episode of all Star Trek.
crayonsandspam.bsky.social
My memories of this are puzzling. On the one hand, I'm sure I saw it in colour and with my family, because I remember talking about the new title sequence. But I also remember watching all of McCoy's era (on transmission) on my portable B&W telly in my room, cos Mum would have been watching Corrie.🤔
