Getting ready to disrupt the status quo.
Students are coming today, but I have nothing on the walls and we are starting not with a seating plan and classroom rules but a sharing circle.
Let’s see where this goes….

G7 @GrohPS Collaborated with artist Sandra Dunn on a #designthinking journey exploring:
“How might we tell the stories of our community through public art?”

From empathy to ideation to Forging Legacies this final piece is a celebration of voices made visible.

5 days left. We’re not winding down we’re opening up.
These final days aren’t for filling time; they’re for making meaning.
Students deserve more than busywork.
They deserve voice, choice, and space to reflect.
We’re ending with curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Start small.

Rethink one question, one expectation, one moment.

That’s where disruption begins.

Inquiry isn’t about finding the "right" answer.

It’s about asking better questions.

Rethinking failure:
What if mistakes weren’t detours but design features?

And this is exactly why we need to disrupt how school has always been played!

Already so many aha moments and I have barely began digging into this book.
Specifically appreciate the continuum of engagement and recognizing that for too long education has defined engaged Ss by the participating column and missed that disrupting and avoiding are active strategies for Ss

Real learning is messy.

Rigid systems don’t support creativity people do.

Ever notice how real-world learning doesn’t fall neatly into subjects?

Maybe it’s time school didn’t either.

When we minimize play in education, we lose curiosity, creativity, and connection. Learning becomes performative, not authentic. Risk feels dangerous, not generative. Without play, we raise students who comply but rarely question, wonder, or innovate.

What if we took play as seriously as productivity?
We’d redesign schools for flow, not efficiency.
Measure joy, not just output.
Value exploration over outcomes.
We might just raise more creative, resilient humans instead of compliant ones.

Can deep learning happen without play? Technically, yes, but it’s slower, risk averse, and often surface level. Play fuels agency, flow, and emotional connection. It’s not the only path to depth, but it’s one of the richest, most human ones.

Playful mindsets invite curiosity, risk-taking, and trust, key ingredients for innovation. They lower the stakes, spark joy, and make space for co-creation. In play, hierarchies dissolve and ideas flow. That’s where real collaboration begins.

If play were a design principle in schools:
Curiosity would lead.
Risk & failure = learning.
Spaces & time would flex.
Power would shift.
Teachers = co-players.
Assessment = artifacts, not grades.
We’d stop teaching to the test—and start designing for wonder.

#Inquirybasedlearning doesn’t mean "figure it out alone."

It’s about structure, ownership, and trust in the learning process.

✔ Students take risks
✔ Conversations go deeper
✔ Joy in failure

What’s one win from your week?

We build walls of thinking not anchor charts of answers.
These are real student sticky notes from a recent inquiry.

What happens when we make student thinking visible?

They feel seen.
They start thinking more.
They become the drivers of the learning.

Innovation is a mindset, not a moment.

Disruption doesn’t mean chaos. It means asking better questions, designing with purpose, and building space for learning to look different.

Teaching through inquiry is about more than projects. It’s a mindset that shapes how we engage and inspire students.

How can we adopt inquiry as a teaching stance to spark curiosity and deeper learning?

A quote reads, “Inquiry is not a project. Inquiry is how we show up in the classroom. Inquiry is a stance from which we teach.” Below the quote, it says, “Inquiry Mindset, Trevor MacKenzie.” To the right is part of the book cover, featuring the title, subtitle, and illustrations of icons such as a question mark, lightbulb, and a drawing of a smiling child.

We don’t want compliant students.

We want curious ones.

In a creatively disrupted classroom:

We focus on questions, not just answers.

We praise risk-taking, not perfection.

We talk more about thinking than grades.

How are you creating a culture of curiosity?
