🔎 We’re looking for thought-provoking stories about Indigenous changemakers who've made a difference in 2025.

The applicants don’t have to be the changemakers, but must be Indigenous, and they can tell their story about someone else. The causes can be anything (human rights, climate change, etc).
The text reads: "The next edition of The Magazine is in the works and we’re looking for thought-provoking stories, insightful articles, and powerful narratives about Indigenous changemakers who have made a difference in 2025.

The submissions don’t have to be from the changemakers themselves–they could be about someone who is making a positive difference in their community or the world.

The changemakers need to be Indigenous, but the causes they champion can be anything prescient (e.g., plastic waste, human rights, climate change)."

In this article for #TheMagazine, Oglala Lakota writer Shana Baumgartner reflects on her grandmother’s silence as a boarding school survivor–tracing #identity, grief & healing.

A photo of a U.S. Indian Boarding School and the text reads: "The Magazine | Dispatch From Our Relatives | Identity Crisis: A Legacy of U.S. Indian Boarding School" The text reads: "For many Indigenous people, identity is deeply intertwined with history, trauma, and survival. For descendants of Indigenous boarding school survivors, like me, identifying as Indigenous can feel like walking a tightrope—between honoring a heritage and navigating a legacy of forced assimilation, cultural erasure, and systemic trauma." The text reads: "My grandmother survived. Not every child sent to an Indian Boarding School did. The Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative Investigative Report (2024) confirms that at least 973 Indigenous children died while attending U.S. Indian Boarding Schools. But with inadequate recordkeeping by those running these schools over the years, that number is likely higher." The text reads: "Support Our Mission | crushingcolonialism.org/subscribe"

Not possible because, for example, someone from Peru won’t charge the same as someone from Canada since their cost of living is different. It’s up to you to make that research and charge accordingly. We’re more focused on the story than on the cost.
