Goemar floated this idea, and since I already had everyone's handles organized in a spreadsheet from the last migration it made this (relatively) easy to make #blutoid go.bsky.app/K6xaMDZ
ctg867.bsky.social
Have you tried getting good?
ctg867.bsky.social
I mean, it's not like they put the game on Plus for free 😂 Sony is cutting them a check for it. The game is two years old now, I doubt it's seeing many sales at MSRP

It's honestly a miracle they're still around, and I'm glad they got the bag from that CrossfireX single player thing. Maybe more contract work is the play from here. There seems to be more IPs with demand for new releases than there are studios to make new installments these days.

Yea this is not a massive sum of money. I think the real issue is that AW2 did just okay, not incredible relative to its cost, and that revenue stream dried up this year. They were hoping fo FBC to fill the void until Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes but it didn't.
ctg867.bsky.social
I suspect the actual investment in FBC was pretty minimal, but they were hoping on it to generate some revenue instead of flopping the way it did.

So I think it's less "FBC hurt Remedy's financials" and more "Remedy's financials are bad and FBC didn't help at all"

Natural diegetic sign posting is unironically great!

The goal is to draw your eye without breaking your immersion in the game world. The only reason this is post worth is because of how terrible many developers are with this stuff by comparison lol

While I'm very happy w/ Romulus and AE, I'm also curious how his film would have turned out.

(Can't have been worse than Covenant 😂)
ctg867.bsky.social
I'm not sure that's true? The Xbox was marketed as a PC for console gamers, from a company established in the PC space, and the FPS had long been established on PC. It's why they bought a PC developer to make one. I don't think Goldeneye had any impact on that or Halo's ability to succeed.
ctg867.bsky.social
Yea that seems to be the case, and there's no functionality in the OS to install a game from cart so that's not an option either.

I would expect every multiplat game w/o a a PS4 version to either be a key card or a code in box
ctg867.bsky.social
"the franchise is cooked" and they're a year removed from the best film since Aliens plus a really great TV show 😭
ctg867.bsky.social
Yea I played the first one like 3 years ago, figured that was enough of a gap where I'd be into the sequel. I think I'm approaching the end of the second "chapter" and it just hasn't grabbed me yet

#blutoid thinking I might drop A Plague Tale: Requiem.

I really liked the strict linear nature of the first game, where each scenario was like a small puzzle you had to solve. Making it wide linear encourages you to explore, but the game fights you if you try, and I kinda hate that?
ctg867.bsky.social
Ugh. Sorry. Just pissed at the idea that Xbox probably gutted the core art team at Halo Studios because they think they can remake the first game by running a bunch of other people's work through some genAI bullshit.

Capitalism ruins everything, man

Imagine Satya Nadella showing up to your local Best Buy next to a guy in a suit of armor to sell you the first copy of Halo Infinite lol.

Shit, even Halo 2 was a cultural event when it came out.

Switch 2 was huge, GTA VI will be huge, but Halo was huge for its time too!
ctg867.bsky.social
#blutoid I think people forget how huge Halo 3 was.

They sold 3+ million copies in a week on a system with less than 12M units (and a good chunk defective lol). Steam has 10x the active userbase and only 8 games have ever seen these player counts (a fraction as many people had broadband in 2007!)
ctg867.bsky.social
Also dope: starting college when a new Halo dropped and realizing the building of dorms we were in was networked such that we could do massive LAN parties lol
ctg867.bsky.social
Yea nothing is beating putting an OG Xbox and 4 controllers in a backpack and then also dragging the CRT from my friend's living room into his basement so we can get a system link game going with a group of our buds 😂
ctg867.bsky.social
If you own Ultimate then Reloaded is a free upgrade fwiw.
ctg867.bsky.social
Holy shit this was incredible lol
ctg867.bsky.social
And then flash forward to my 30s, visiting a buddy who now lives in another state who i grew up playing Halo with, and we can't play the new one together, irl like we used to, cause it has no split screen.

Ugh.
ctg867.bsky.social
I think DX:HR did a great job of honoring this legacy, too. The thread with Faridah, the full impact of which is a small moment that comes out of nowhere some time later, is one of the most memorable experiences I've had with this medium

And I will carry that shame to my fucking grave 😭
ctg867.bsky.social
Also probably hasn't helped that the industry's marketing has consolidated almost entirely around (1) Keighly run events and (2) Nintendo, who fucking hate the games press lol.

Seems they both read the room on where this situation was going
ctg867.bsky.social
This is almost certainly true as the way the industry defines "game players" includes people who play mobile slop or have a couple live service games/series and that's the only things they touch.
ctg867.bsky.social
I'm just gonna call it now, cause the direction under Phil Spencer's leadership at Xbox has been clear:

Halo Studios, the rebranded 343, is maybe gonna ship one game before closing shop and the franchise gets entirely farmed out to dev contractors.
