CT is committing $3M in emergency funds to @CTFoodshare as federal #SNAP support disappears.

We’re glad the need is being recognized—but $3M can’t replace $72M/month in SNAP benefits.

CT must commit to covering this gap through year’s end.

📅 Happening this week! Join us in #NewBritain on October 30 to discuss how federal cuts and state fiscal controls are holding #CT back, and what it will take to put children and families at the center of our budget choices.

New, stricter work requirements under HR1 (the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”) could cause 36,000 (or more) #CT residents to lose #SNAP benefits.

What seems “reasonable” on paper often backfires, creating red tape, hardship, and hunger.

Under new rules requiring work, 36,000 CT residents may lose their SNAP benefits
The list could include veterans, people who are experiencing homelessness, residents without jobs, parents of older children and late middle age adults.

Honoring Hispanic and Latine identity isn’t seasonal. It’s about the right to live without fear, to walk freely, and to belong.

To all who carry this heritage: we see you and we’re proud to live in a state made stronger by your presence.
Thousands of #CT families are rightfully asking: Am I going to lose my benefits?

TOMORROW: Join Defend Public Health CT for a conversation on what’s changing w/ programs like #SNAP & #Medicaid (AKA HUSKY in CT), what these cuts will mean for residents and how we can fight back.
“In one of the wealthiest states in the country, we have the resources to ensure that no one goes hungry,” said Emily Byrne, executive director.

️‼️One idea among many others‼️: The state could distribute new, temporary EBT cards for families.

The USDA sent a memo to states on Oct 10 ordering them to withhold Nov #SNAP benefits to families & vendors amidst the shutdown. This is on top of HR 1.

Contact your State legislators & tell them: When Washington turns its back, #CT must have families’ backs.

🚨 Health care costs are set to rise, and fast.

If Washington, DC can't agree that affordable health coverage for everyone is the right and smart thing, Connecticut elects should lead with #CT values here at home.
Federal cuts and state fiscal rules are straining #CT families, but change is possible. Join us to talk about how our state can choose care over cuts and put children and families first. 💙

HR 1, the Big Beautiful Bill Act is brutal.

Its cuts are already hurting families, with more to come.

See what’s happening 👇 Then contact the governor and legislators and urge them to support policies that protect #CT families.

Long before our home carried the name Connecticut, this land carried stories, families, & futures cared for by Indigenous peoples.

For centuries, Indigenous communities have modeled what it means to nurture one another & to build a future rooted in shared responsibility. Happy #IndigenousPeoplesDay
Our economy puts profit over people. Rising rent, costly groceries, unaffordable care. Immigrants face the same hardships—they don’t cause them. What’s broken is the system that villainizes them.

SNAP changes have started including new work requirements for "Able-Bodied Adults."

Research shows many who lose #SNAP are working, but bureaucratic red tape makes documenting it too hard.

Excellent op-ed and a clear warning about what’s at risk under HR 1 (aka OBBBA).

Federal cuts could jeopardize care for 100K+ #CT residents & strain vital services. With a record surplus, CT can & must protect access now. And sustained cuts require sustained revenue.

This year, Premium Tax Credit enhancements helped 20 million people across the U.S. afford health care.

Families shouldn't pay the price 4 political gridlock. It’s time 4 Congress to come to the table. And if they can't, the # CT Legislature should mitigate the federal harms.

Next #Roadshow stop: New Britain!

Federal cuts + state fiscal rules are hurting #CT families. This is no time for “business as usual” — it’s a moment for action. Together, we can demand choices that put children + families first. 💙

Families shouldn’t pay the price for political gridlock. With food prices rising, #SNAP & #WIC are lifelines—yet new work requirements and government shutdown put them at risk. #CT must step up for kids & families.

#CT must decide: Will we use part of that surplus to protect children, families & vulnerable communities or will we let devastating federal cuts take hold?

Fiscal discipline & urgent needs aren’t either/or. We can—and must—do both.

More than 22 million people rely on the ACA for health insurance, thanks in part to enhanced premium tax credits that lowered costs & stabilized coverage.
