Starting a thread (or possibly a thread of threads) to capture things I post from time to time.

It does have direct bearing - the prosecution tried to use it to prove the defendant had caused harassment, alarm or distress, which the appeal judge quite properly rejected.

Have you read the judgement? It makes clear that this was a political protest outside a secure building, addressing no individual person, and for which the protester was attacked by a man with a knife, and also by a cyclist. The threshold for a racially aggravated public order offence was not met.

Happy Birthday to Sigourney Weaver, Patron Saint of Bad-Asses.

This raises the delightful possibility of bent bookies tranquilising or steroid injecting Nobel nominees in hope of making a killing.

There is something to be written, probably, about how simulated war experiences can be desirable and/or lucrative even when those experiences are totally artificial.

Wondering how many people posting this kind of - sometimes very dangerous - protest advice ever go within sniffing distance of actual tear gas.

As far as I'm aware, there's no generally accepted definition of that distinction. I'm not even sure if the terms replica/reproduction/refurbished are generally accepted.

I suppose it's a bit Trigger's Broom/Ship of Theseus - is it still a 70+-year-old system if some/all its parts have been replaced. The unknown overhaul date is presumably just as worrying.

Apparently already suspended. Impressively quick.

I assume Backseat Pilot was continuously critiquing Frontseat Pilot's technique.

Public service announcement: probably worth reporting and blocking @sainsburyssupphub.bsky.social - either scam or spam.

I don't know how old the pilot was, but I think as a rule it's good to get such things looked at some point since the pilot's birth.

Also 'WW2'. Come on, BBC.

Bit amazed by this bit:

'Investigators said they found a degraded gasket had created a fuel system leak, which caused the power loss.

The agency found the system was "at least 70-years-old and its last overhaul date was unknown"'
WW2 Spitfire had to do emergency landing as engine stopped
A safety notice is now in place following the emergency landing in West Hythe.

'You wouldn't know my girlfriend, she goes to another protest movement....'

The funny thing was I was a bit surprised to be surprised - I knew, in a historical sense, that Britain had had a presence in Cyprus for a long time, had Cypriot classmates at school etc, but somehow the sight of a familiar postbox made that connection very tangible.

Holidayed briefly in Paphos in 2019 (I think). Hadn't done the reading and so was more than a bit surprised to find Royal Mail-looking post boxes and Sainsbury's products in the local supermarket.

Hooray! Congratulations.

What this situation calls for is months of articles about people who bought flats next to pubs claiming to be astonished that pubs make noise.

It is very funny. A few years after the UK right denounced Black Lives Matter as a foreign import full of American race baggage, they're now shipping in American lunacy by the truckload.

Yes, it's very impressive. Meanwhile Strictly has got to the point where I've heard of precisely one of this year's contestants - Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
