Issue 55 is here! It's a very special edition of Current Affairs, with every article devoted to animal welfare.

We’ve recruited leading scholars and activists to lend their voices in this issue, but we’ve done it with the signature Current Affairs satirical and artistic flair.

For working-class people in Argentina, Milei’s presidency has been less a miracle and more a curse. The U.S. bailout is just the latest indignity, and the news that the country’s economic future now depends on Trump can’t be improving anyone’s confidence.

This is Why You Don’t Let Libertarians Run Your Country
In Argentina, President Javier Milei has screwed the economy up so badly he needs a $20 billion bailout. That’s because his “free market” economics don’t actually work.

That's why all the people saying "why aren't the anti-genocide crowd praising Trump" are clueless. This was a US genocide that he decided to finally end because it had become an unpopular embarrassment.
currentaffairs.bsky.social
The US president has always had the power to end the genocide whenever he wants. Trump didn't "negotiate a deal," he finally called off the war, which was within US's power.

The reason he shouldn't be praised is that there is nothing praiseworthy about ending your own genocide.

The biggest lie animal agriculture tells isn’t about “happy cows” or “free-range chickens.” It’s that animals are fundamentally voiceless—unable to communicate their own desires and choices. Even some animal advocates perpetuate this nonsense.

How Industrial Slaughter Became the Blueprint for Modern Capitalism
Henry Ford learned mass production from slaughterhouses. A century later, our modern economy still resembles a meatpacking plant.

The term “slaughterhouse capitalism” reminds us that the violence we see under “post-Fordist capitalism” is not some type of quirk or mistake, but instead the original and foundational purpose of the entire system—from the moment it was first designed.

The entire modern industrial system—from Amazon to Tesla—originated in one place: Chicago slaughterhouses, where capitalists first figured out how to turn living beings into perfectly controlled objects.

Trump’s new national security memo (NSPM-7) designates the following as terrorism "indicators":

🟥Anti-capitalism
🟥Anti-Christianity
🟥Anti-Americanism
🟥Extremism on gender
🟥Extremism on race

This encompasses pretty much everybody to the left of MAGA.
