Not sure who needs to hear this, but the opposite of boneless chicken isn’t boner chicken, it’s bone in. I know bone-in chicken sounds just as bad but I don’t make the rules.

Back in the 90s at @uh.edu, my friends and I had a sci-fi comedy TV show going out to the dorms. Our version of Weyland-Yutani was McTimeWarner. I guess we weren’t far off. If this deal goes through I plan to call the new conglomerate “Mt. SkyWarner”.

2025 is weird if you were born in 1975. Lots of people turn 50, but you would think the perspective of living almost equally in the 20th & 21st Centuries would bring some sort of wisdom. It doesn’t. I can’t make sense of any of it. All I can say is we should be on a different, much better path.

We can learn a lot about the world we live in watching STAR TREK. But some important lessons are about the future, such as:
• things get A LOT WORSE before they get better, but
• we survive, unite, and explore the galaxy,
• and, sadly, human entertainment peaks in the 20th Century.

I have a great respect for Sagan, and most of the book is an unfortunately justified dire warning, but there are some passages about pop culture that don’t age well. In fairness, he died in December 1996 so wouldn’t have had access to the X-FILES past mid season 4.

Finishing up Carl Sagan’s THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD (1996). 30 years later, there’s still not enough real science on TV, but his comments re: THE X-FILES turned out kinda wrong when you consider “The Scully Effect.” A whole generation of women studied to be scientists because of Gillian Anderson.

“A series called The X Files, which pays lip service to skeptical examination of the paranormal, is skewed heavily towards the reality of alien abductions, strange powers and government complicity in covering up just about everything interesting. Almost never does the paranormal claim turn out to be a hoax or a psychological aberration or a misunderstanding of the natural world. Much closer to reality, as well as a much greater public service, would be an adult series (Scooby Doo does it for children) in which paranormal claims are systematically investigated and every case is found to be explicable in prosaic terms.”

It’s been ages since I’ve cared about a Superman movie.

I need my Superman to always be compassionate, fair, and honestly a bit of a dorky Boy Scout (in that order).

I don’t need him to be the strong arm of a fascist government. So if Supes gives up “the American way,” that’s 100% appropriate.
