A fantastic feature story just came out in @thetyee.ca about Dr. Younes Alila, the star of my new documentary 'Trouble in the Headwaters.' Go give it a read. Journalist Alice Kassam does a great job of laying out the story of Dr. Alila's groundbreaking science.

For more than a decade, professor of forest hydrology Younes Alila’s research showed how B.C.’s land management choices can amplify floods and landslides.

He published in peer-reviewed journals, warned officials and spoke to anyone willing to listen.

Few did.

My new video about the Texas flood is now live on my YouTube channel The Cutblock, where I break down the key factors that made this flood such an unmitigated disaster – natural landscape features, climate-fuelled storms and bad land-use decisions all played a role.

Agreed, it seems really *duhh* but the timber industry has used outdated science for decades to say the exact opposite – that clearcutting has minimal effect on larger floods. This turns the table 180 degrees on the prevailing wisdom. Hydrologists and RPFs rubber-stamping logging better take note.
