When Miss Villars announced her candidacy, submissions for the WMSC were open so there was no reason to suspect at that time there was would only be one South American candidate, or that this eventuality was going to arise.

I can’t speak for Miss Villars as to whether or not she ‘did her homework’.

Presidential candidates must, by October 24, submit a list of WMSC nominees, including a vice-president for sport in South America. But Fabiana Ecclestone of Brazil is the only person eligible and she is on Ben Sulayem's list. Anyone who cannot submit a full list will not be on the ballot paper.

I think it’s one of those where there was no completely fair decision and giving Lewis five seconds to drop him behind Fernando is the ‘least wrong’ option!

I personally think it’s a little harsh on Hamilton considering the brakes issue was out of his control, but at the same time it would have been harsh on Alonso not to give the penalty because he only finished ahead of the Aston by cutting those corners. All things considered, prob the right outcome

Sure – stewards said they had consulted the list of exemptions in the driving standards guidelines for multiple track limits violations and a brakes failure is not one of the “foreseen” scenarios. That’s why they decided in this case that it wasn’t a “justifiable reason” for going off track so much

No penalty! The stewards have explained that "a greater reduction of speed would have been desirable", but found Hamilton "remained above the required minimum time" between the start of the red flags and when he entered the pit lane, and did not drive in an unsafe manner.
