Where are the AI systems that will make daily living tasks easier? Where's the AI that will help around the house, cook meals for us, take the dog for a walk, etc. That sort of stuff could be a huge help to the disabled. It would open a world a leisure for all, but I guess it's not profitable 2/2
defencebrief.bsky.social
It's interesting how the development of AI is all about doing human's work foro them; it's all focused on the generation of wealth, or perhaps another way of putting it - on the removal of humans from the work force to increase profits. None of it seems to be about making people's lives better. 1/2

Me too but so much of this shite has to be shredded, eg Worldpay post details of all transactions each month to me. I don't need it, don't want it, and could just download it if I did. But I have to shred it.

that’s a great description almost all the jobs in our service economy,Royal mail could not survive to send the important stuff without junk mail & unless clerks are adding junk to spreadsheets no one will read more than once our entire fake system collapses that’s why people are scared of AI

About 50% of the post I get could have been an email. 40% of it need never have existed at all. Only about 10% is something that needs to exist and be posted. Much of what I get is both useless and needs to be shredded. I can't tell you how frustrating this is to me.

Letter sent to Nigel Farage by Patrick Sargent
Former Reform UK regional Chairman

He is surprised to find out that the limited company he joined:

• Has no democratic structure
• Is not a meritocracy
• Is a Farage vanity project
• Has no policies
• Is not a professional outfit

Pope Leo says that American bishops need to be more vocal and support migrant communities from being abducted by ICE in US cities

"Important that we as church give a message of hope in the midst of these horrible struggles, what's going on in some cities in the US"

"The church cannot be silent"

Is that the same man who put so much effort into resisting FOIs?

I applaud Michael Gove's fervent commitment to gov't transparency on intelligence matters, however newly-discovered it is. ~AA

Are we really asked to believe a single civil servant is alone responsible? I fear he may be being made a scapegoat. Why not publish the evidence, publish the correspondence between NSA and Deputy NSA, and have the NSA answer parliamentarians’ questions?

It was Tory ministers who allowed these people get where they did. If I were Badenoch I'd shut the feck up.

Badenoch demands PM address 'unanswered' China spy case questions
In a letter to Starmer, the Tory leader claimed his government's account of the collapsed case had "changed repeatedly".

I'm not so sure about that. I just logged into X and was immediately met with a KC taking the piss out of a barrister for getting the law wrong on his Youtube channel, a barrister bragging about a courtroom victory, & a third discussing a new court case. They're def there & talking law,

Very pointedly the Norwegian Nobel committee awarded the prize to Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who has had to go into hiding, for “keeping the flame of democracy burning amidst a growing darkness”

Something Trump is decidedly NOT doing. Driving his country to civil war instead.

The whole listed house thing seems nuts to me. I've never bought one and don't think I ever would. The whole thing seems bizarre anyway. Houses are going to come to the end of their life at some point and maybe we need to accept that & build something modern in their place when it happens.
defencebrief.bsky.social
Yeah loads of them. I occasionally log into X, usually when I want to check if a screenshot of a tweet is real, and there was most of the legal community still chatting away like nothing ever happened.

Thanks. It's just started working again for me. Maybe it was a temporary error they fixed, or maybe my computer was just grumpy at being woken up.

Ditto all the lawyers who rage quit X and pretended to delete their accounts only to slink back a couple of weeks later, accounts miraculously undeleted.

Not that I’m on there to get it first hand but it seems like the journalists and pundits who stayed decided there literally is no line, the owner of the site who *every day* proves how fucking terrible he is can apparently do absolutely anything and they will shrug and scoff at the idea of leaving

We had to commission a special bat survey which cost c.£400 (but might have easily been £1K) as a condition of planning permission to demolish a conservatory. It was the most insane & pointless piece of bureaucracy. So stupid, in fact, that the ecologist first wrote about our loft in error...

Can anybody else access CJSM? I'm getting this error when I try to log in.
Screenshot from Firefox, which says it cannot connect to www.cjsm.net due to an invalid security cerfiticate.

Apparently, they were the lucky ones. Their architect said another family was delayed building their house for 9 months while they waited for their 'bat licence' to be granted.
defencebrief.bsky.social
Watching Grand Designs. I really think this country needs to make building easier. Family in this episode spent £6500 & were delayed in building their house as a bat might be in the roof of the old house. Turned out the was no bat! How can you stop building for a bat let alone an imaginary one.

"We will reimagine income tax. Our innovative new system will cost you, the taxpayer, 75% less money each year and will raise 200% what the government currently takes in so we can provide you with better public services and free pizza once a week".

If you're going to BS then just go for it.
defencebrief.bsky.social
Yes, the news also mentioned that judgment but I can't say I've read it.
