We played well, passed the ball well, won possession, tackled with precision, went at top speed, and showed teamwork.

If we’d scored a goal, it would’ve been a perfect game.

Ah well. Onwards to Wednesday!
Hey, it’ll the last time one of those teams gets press coverage before a possible off-season of very big changes (ownership, coach, 90% of the roster, etc.). That @joshrjhealey.bsky.social story will be an important snapshot for the archives!
This is a team that can beat anyone.

They believe it, and so do I.
It’s a big game tomorrow: the Wanderers will be playing to make this season “get stuck in” as one of their best ever — and Ottawa will be playing with a trophy on the line!

Let’s hold fast and win this one like it’s a twelve-point game, @hfxwanderersfc.bsky.social!
Kermit the Frog once had a conversation with himself, and realised that it wasn’t about the money and fame, or even his friends… it was a promise he made to himself, to do what he loves and make people happy.

Best of luck to Valour and Pacific: those are the stakes in the battle for 6th place.
It’s a little bit odd to realise that tomorrow will be Sam Salter’s final CPL game. He’ll be remembered as an Ottawa player, but it’s nice that he’ll end where he started.
There’s a chance here to combine this with Valour’s burgundy/gold scheme for the classiest shirt sponsor we’ve ever had.
You and you alone pulled us through on that one!
And with an interim coach, too!

I feel like at this point, Martin Nash has the job if he wants it. But if he had always planned to step back after this season, then it’s going to be a swift and seismic off-season in Vancouver for his replacement.
Remarkable - the last place #CanPL side, Vancouver FC, is officially heading to the Concacaf Champions Cup!

There will now be 3 CPL teams in next year’s CCC - and 2 teams from the Lower Mainland with #VWFC back in a 4th straight tournament. Going to be fun 👀

Imagine seeing this months ago…

I hope someone explains to CIBC just what sort of audience will be seeing those Café Artigiano jerseys next year.
It’s also been a miserable year for social media. The CPL is on X, us fans are on BlueSky, management is (wisely) quiet, CPL podcasters are busy with other things, and the US is fomenting a lot of nihilism online.

Even Forge stalwarts are more muted this year than mere modesty would explain.
It is. We’ve got to beat Forge and Cavalry at home, we haven’t beat Ottawa at home since 2021, we haven’t won a CanChamp game since 2022, and haven’t beaten a CPL team in the CanChamp since 2019.

But we can’t fix all of those things next week. We can only prepare for the next chance.
It’s one of our swords in the stone: the day we can do it, we’ll be ready to win it all.
To be fair, though, the old VWFC would have had Vanni Sartini’s response to that ball not being a goal, which would have been pretty fun to hear.
And combine that with Forge and Ottawa being so successful, it makes victories against other teams feel unfulfilling - and losses against other teams feel like wasted chances.

Supra can’t show up soon enough, we need to get out of this version of the league’s status quo.
We’ve also earned fewer than eight red cards! Compared to last year, that plus a playoff berth should be an unqualified success.
I’d agree with this. We were red-hot at the start, then hit a four-game losing streak. Not only does that leave a sour taste, it also suggested that there was something holding the team back.

That, and Forge and Ottawa are SO hot, it’s pushed a lot of good vibes out of the spotlight.
We’re in Eggstra Time now.
(and not just for a spot in the standings — right now we want as tough a sparring partner as we can get to prepare for the playoffs, and an Atlético Ottawa looking for a Shield will be *tough*.)
What a fantastic game. Solid performances all around, Rush gets a few saves and a clean sheet, Coimbra gets back on the board, Biello makes the most of his start… So many good stories within that 90 minutes.

Next week is going to be huge!
Last night I had a dream that the Wanderers were playing on a beach, and I was watching the game from a restaurant on an overhanging cliff.

I’m calling that a premonition that we’ll be in the Concacaf Champions Cup next year!
