Build modern housing. Build modern infrastructure. Build modern democracy. More power generation is ok, but efficiency is the game-changer. Yes it can be done in Canada.

He is not a libertarian. His first thing was to appoint the head of the right wing party as interior ministry then passed a law against protests of his gov't.

And still sky high tariffs to protect his 1% and their captive markets.

He's a military style gov't in a bad haircut.

I don't think we need those types of EVs desperately. However I don't mind cheap Chinese solar panels and E-bikes as they have spinoff benefits to Cda.

China is not using Cdn auto parts, steel, aluminum, labour. But will displace those that do already. Toyota and Honda both have factories in Cda.

It is more economically beneficial than selling hydro to the US.

They could be built in Northern Ontario to take advantage of local hydro and less need for AC and water. And diversify the northern economy.

In a way, Trump is inoculating Canada somewhat. We know where rightwing populism can lead.
devokneivel.bsky.social
Na. They want to freely dump automobiles and steel...hurting Canada and killing jobs.

We can find other crops to rotate instead of canola. We can find other markets for our canola.

It isn't like US farmers and soy exports to China. They are F'ed.
devokneivel.bsky.social
Yup.

US farmers' soy is a different story. Not many markets and none as big as China. China is buying from the Argies and Brazilians and will most likely continue.

He is not a socialist, but can see the pitchforks coming.

We aren't dumping cheap canola in their market. They are dumping cheap cars and steel in ours.

If we allow their cars into our market it will kill Canadian auto jobs, real and potential.

If they don't buy our canola we can grow lentils, wheat and other things on that land and ship elsewhere.

Many people who are recreating our world at worst hate people or at best find dealing with other people the greatest nuisance in life.

And we should do like Europe and have freight trains operate at night where slow 100 car trains aren't blocking traffic at crossings during busy hours.

Fast Via trains during the day would interfere less with car traffic and sell more seats...getting more cars off the road.
devokneivel.bsky.social
The source of the problem is freight owns the rails and freight trains are slow, so the tracks are allowed to be poorly maintained by CN, CP etc.

If CN can't maintain their tracks properly than we should nationalize them.

I listen to CBC podcasts only. I fast forward through the crap like mini maga.

The choice is lazy colonialism or ambitious nation building.

It is time for the latter. Time to be masters in our own house.
devokneivel.bsky.social
Trump is an insane bully and will damage his own economy so he can make a buck, let alone ours.

Any journalist, commentator or politician who thinks there are predictable friendly outcomes available to Cda is either a moron stealing a living or a performative liar filling columns or TV time for $.

It could be that there will be a US market and a separate market for the rest of the Americas or trading blocks outside the US.
devokneivel.bsky.social
We have a common market with Mexico. And we are in the TPP with Japan, UK, Australia, NZ, Chile.

Mexican and Canadian market together with NAFTA.

Canada and Mexico are also in the Trans Pac Partnership with Japan...

That helps sourcing and logistics too.

You can save yourselves. I think their strength is abusing what people of good spirit in the US have built. Their weakness is they can't create a 300 million community like that. Their strength is division, not multiplication.

We are trying to save our current economy and protecting future investment until we diversify away from you guys.

You want the rest of the world to sacrifice themselves to protect USers from a guy you voted for twice? Scold other USers who did this, not us.

But Canadians are better at reading a room and judging reactions. That helps you get what you want more than polite ways to say F off. :)
