I had it tagged "redwoods," but assumed that was an error since it was Oregon.

Sorry for the overload of these photos, but here's a #ColorADay #OrangeSun candidate.

#Photography #Dahlia #Flower #VolunteerPark #Seattle
Direct view onto a yellow-orange to red-orange dahlia from the Volunteer Park Dahlia Garden in Seattle. It is set against an out of focus green foliage background.

Close enough to #BNWmacro.

#Photography #ClassicMono #Dahlia #Flower #VolunteerPark #Seattle
B&W near-macro closeup of a symmetrical dahlia central portion with the
distant parts of the flower falling out of focus. Taken in the Volunteer Park Dahlia Garden in Seattle.

Happy #Stunday!

I don’t have a record.

I don't usually share old work, but this 2013 image seems to fit #BlueSkyArtShow #glow and #ColorADay #GreenSat. Taken when @alex-kunz.com and I were driving through Oregon in May, 2013, when I moved to Seattle.

Moss like this is so beautiful, but very hard to capture.

#Photography #Trees #Moss
Crossing tree branches, covered in heavy moss and backlit with glowy light. Taken in Oregon, May, 2013.

Prisoner in an urban jungle.

#Photography #ColorADay #GreenSat #Ferns #Seattle
A fern, back lit and side lit, partly obscured by a wrought iron fence, taken in a garden in Capitol Hill, Seattle, October, 2025.

Technically, it is a #BNWMacro, although I had to do a pano of four frames that were each macro because reasons...

#Photography #ClassicMono #Dahlia #Flower #VolunteerPark #Seattle
B&W closeup image from four macro frames of a dahlia against a much darker background. It is a simple dahlia, viewed from edge on with the center in focus.

You are too kind! 🙏🙏

One #FlyDay does not constitute any intent to become an insect photographer! Too hard!

#Photography #Dahlia #Flower #VolunteerPark #Seattle #Red
Closeup of a honey bee on a red dahlia with a yellow center against a blurred background of foliage and other flowers.

Seattle #Scape. Happy Friday!

#Photograph #ClassicMono #Scape #Seattle #OlympicMountains
B&W view toward the west past classic Seattle brick buildings toward Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains in hazy/misty near sunset light.

Spiky. OK, it was a bokeh test, but I like it.

#Photography #ColorADay #BWFri #Bokeh
B&W closeup up of the spike on a wrought iron fence with the other spikes fading into the blur and the house in the background nearly completely blurred away. 35mm lens bokeh test.

Wow! This is amazing and gorgeous. It would have been great to see the huge pano.

Another dreamy B&W closeup.

#Photography #ColorADay #BWFri #Dahlia #VolunteerPark #Seattle
B&W closeup of a spiky dahlia (with another fading away in the background to the right) with shallow depth of field in high contrast light. The background is blurred and darkened. Taken in the Volunteer Park Dahlia Garden, Seattle, October, 2025.

I returned to the dahlias for some completely different dreamy closeups and wasn't feeling it until I started targeting B&W.

#Photography #ColorADay #BWFri #Dahlia #VolunteerPark #Seattle
B&W closeup of a large, sprawling dahlia viewed from the side. There are a few raindrops on the petals. The background is blurred and darkened away.

Happy hour.

#Photography #ClassicMono #UrbanGaze #CapitolHill #Seattle
B&W view inside a cafe in bright late afternoon sunshine with two customers sitting at the counter. There are shadows from the sunlight and reflections on the glass of the cafe window.

Relentless.

#Photography #ClassicMono #UrbanGaze #CapitolHill #Seattle
B&W image looking south along Broadway to several pedestrians and a man sleeping on a bench with a tattoo saying "Relentless" visible on his arm raised above his head.

Happy #UrbanGaze Thursday.

#Photography #ClassicMono #SCC #CapitolHill #Seattle
B&W image of a furry-costumed mascot (?) followed by three photographers and a man walking in the opposite direction passing by the entrance to a Seattle Community College brick building.

I don’t know if it is a good idea, but they are unavoidable in some cities.

I don't know how I feel about that, TBH. It was pretty upsetting. I know my motivations aren't exploitative, but it's also not worth it to cause distress in ANYBODY, let alone the subject. The behavior of most street photographers that I see online is pretty appalling (to me).

Got yelled at by a woman while I was taking photos of some skateboarders practicing in a skateboard park. She thought it was creepy that I was taking pictures without their explicit permission (they knew I was photographing them; 35mm lens). First time in almost 20 years that I've been confronted.
dknisely.bsky.social
A past me would have painstakingly tried removing them, but I'm seeing the "real" world differently now. Thanks for the comment!
