I know in my head that this is a formula:

• Protagonist is wronged.
• Protagonist seeks vengeance.
• Vengeance goes horribly wrong.
• Protagonist goes off for recovery and training.
• Vengeance goes much better this time.

And yet, executed well, I'm an absolute sucker for it.

I think a lot of earnest, progressive, very well-meaning people don't quite get what a potent weapon ridicule is. Horrible right-wing bullies are singularly incapable of being laughed at and being made fun of publicly drives them apoplectic with rage.

Do you remember that Ronald Lacey who played "The Baby-Eating Bishop of Bath and Wells" in that episode also played the nasty Nazi in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK whose face famously melts.

Watching the Jon Pertwee serial "Inferno", I note how fond I am of that great horror McGuffin: mysterious green goo. Two of my favorite uses of this are RE-ANIMATOR and PRINCE OF DARKNESS. What are some other great examples where a mysterious green goo is integral to the plot?

I must admit, I'm amused by the concept of a vampire story where the damsel in distress doesn't let the count in because "I've been working through some issues and learning to set boundaries and this doorway is one of them."

The count stomps off before vanishing in a cloud of bats.
