I have nothing but respect for the L.A. Dodgers and their pitcher, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. They are formidable opponents!!
That being said, I believe that is all it will take for the Toronto Blue Jays to win the World Series is play their best, both as individuals and as a team. Let's go, Blue Jays!!!
Some photos and signs from yesterday's "No Kings" march. 7 million people across the United States exercised their first amendment right to express their opinion that the current US government is headed in the wrong direction.
Listening to the baseball game always reminds me of my Dad. When he went blind in the early 1980s, baseball was one of the few sports that he could still follow because the radio commentary was so good.
Been thinking of him a lot in the last few weeks as the Blue Jays chase the dream again...
I just listened to this fantastic album last night!
For anyone in the NYC area, Dave Bainbridge and Sally Minnear are playing at The Cutting Room, opening for Mike Keneally and Beer For Dolphins, along with Matt Dorsey.
One of the best albums I've heard in a while now!!
MTA announces that the elevators are out of service at 161st St./Yankees Stadium. Not to worry, though - the NY Yankees are there to let New Yorkers down all evening. :D
Veg. chili, cornbread, and the Blue Jays winning again against the New York Yankees - that's a sweet way to end a weekend! (First grand slam in Blue Jays playoff history?!? I'd have thought between George Bell, Paul Molitor, John Olerud, Roberto Alomar, and Jose Bautista that happened ages ago!)
Thelonius the Piano gets tuned once a year - that means I have to clear the top of it off. And every year, for a couple of days, I enjoy the sound with the lid up.
Appreciating the tone quality also allows me to ignore my bad playing for a time... :D
Yesterday was a day that makes me proud to be Canadian. Not because of what we've accomplished, but because of what we are trying to do. Certainly the work of reconciliation is not finished, but it has begun.
Design and shirt by Carey Newman; photo from sometime when my beard was short.
I would like to point out that narcissism, particularly the strain of narcissism characterized by greed, lack of empathy, lying, and bullying has had a more negative impact on society than autism has ever had.
Certainly narcissists should not be given political power nor a presence in social media.
Quite a weekend! Saturday night showcase at the Art Collective Café, Sunday morning service at Plymouth Church, Sunday evening opening of "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" at The Met, leaving me tired, wired, and inspired!
Let's all make art even better than we made it before!
Tonight! I'm on at 9:20 pm (on the 20th of September; there's an odd symmetry there), but you'll want to get there for 6 pm to hear all of these wonderful artists! Art Collective Cafe, 97 7th Avenue.
Coming up next Saturday, Sept. 20 - I'll be part of a showcase at the Art Collective Cafe with a line up of great musicians at 7th Ave. and 16th St. Come on down!!
Ever so pleased to announce that I'll be appearing as one of the soloists in "Messiah" on Dec. 12, 2025, along with my friends Leslie Fagan, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Colin Ainsworth, the Elmer Iseler Singers, VIVA Singers Toronto, and conducted by Lydia Adams!
