I would actually nominate Wilson as the worst, most immoral, president the United States has ever had, up until Trump.

He was a vicious racist, when race relations were actually headed in the right direction. He effectively reversed desegregation.

He was not only bad, but effective.

Distance is your friend wrt FBs. Get far away, put something sturdy between yourself and the source of the explosion. Shock waves reflect by a change in density; walls, cars, even glass. While the glass may shatter, if the FB is more than a couple meters away, the glass won't pick up much velocity.

If you happen upon a flashbang where the pin was never pulled, Don't pick it up. Why you may not be in physical danger, legally flashbangs are regulated under the National firearms act as Destructive Devices, the same as a hand grenade. 25 years in prison, $250k fine.

Never try to put anything over an unexploded flashbang. Doing so will confine the gases come out and whatever you put over it will become a projectile.

There are flashbangs that are designed with multiple charges. Even if one goes off, it's not safe to pick up or interact with.

Concussive hearing damage will worsen in the first 24 hours after the injury to the cochlea. The stereocilia will fall out of the bruised tissue.

There is medical evidence that treatment in the first 24 hours with systemic anti-inflammatories can reduce long-term hearing damage.

These devices are designed to give you a mild traumatic brain injury. If you are close enough that you feel rattled, and your ears are ringing afterwards, leave immediately and seek medical care for a likely concussion.

Hearing damage is also extremely likely.

Bad stuff that can happen with fb:

They're designed to go off on a hard flat surface.

Anything that blocks the upper or side ports can cause them to move at high velocity. 100 m/s+ that will hurt you.

If you ever see that .gov are taping multiple FBs together, get the hell out of the area.

If multiple fbs are taped together, you can get sympathetic detonation where the first one sets off the second one. The resultant velocity of the expended FB casing can be lethal.

If an FB goes off up against the curb, they will be blown away from the curb at high speed.

Not a lawyer. Don't play one on TV. The legal landscape at the time I was briefed was that changing the trajectory of a FB back towards the thrower is considered aggravated assault and battery, likely a felony.

Yes it's insanely unfair, but remember the .Gov agents have impunity, you don't.

The same goes for kicking them. Why you may not lose toes, if one goes off in contact with your foot, several bad things can happen.

You're likely to suffer a deep hematoma. Think of a bruise that goes all the way to the Bone. By definition your brain is within 5 ft, think TBI.

I suggest the following if you're going to be in anywhere FB's are being deployed.

NEVER pick one up! If it goes off in your hand, you will lose fingers. Not maybe lose fingers, not suffer injury, virtually certain to suffer amputation of fingers. Gloves that you can get, will not do much to help.

Did this result in a safer flashbang? Yes, if your definition of safety involves lighting stuff on fire. No, If you care about physical harm to human flesh.

There are many rules in deploying flashbangs that are ignored by DHS. Even if the rules were followed, these are really dangerous devices

Let's talk about flashbangs.

FBs are extraordinarily dangerous devices. A Couple of decades ago I worked on a project to try to make them safer. The primary result of that research was to produce pyrotechnics that reduced flame temperature, and increased gas volume.

In 2010, a company run by a friend did a contract to build a mount for a ~500 gigapixel hemisphere camera for aircraft /helicopters. Mounted on either side, vibration isolated cameras could zoom on items of interest @ 5km. Resolution at that distance? But sufficient for facial and weapons ID.

Tear gas canisters are typically 1000f, I recently learned they can go as high as 1400°. Leather gloves are inadequate, and may get you a residency in the burn unit.

What kind of dry bag will take those temperatures?

If you are unlucky, a hot canister + water equals a steam explosion.

Yeiks. My info was from background briefings when I was developing "safer" flashbangs, 20 plus years ago. I wish I could find the clip of the montage of steam explosions when people tossed tear gas grenades into buckets of water.

Fun fact. Safer flashbangs are still unsafe.

Tear gas needs to be boiled off inside the canister in order to produce the particulate cloud. It boils at 590° f. the outsides of the canister May reach as much as 1000° f.

Don't pick up that shit either.

Carbon capture technology is an insane boondoggle and should never have been funded by government.

If you know the first thing about thermodynamics and entropy, the Idea of carbon capture to address global warming using any kind of electrical energy is a losing game.

Release the Epstein files.

I wanted to like it. I did not succeed.

While it had some excellent acting in spots, the story line was a bad parody of XXXX. Cliche after cliche, monochrome cartoons of resistance to a trumpien state, pointless digressions. Bad editing.

You look at getting a battery backup for your house. The price of house sized lithium batteries has plunged incredibly. A 30 kWh would cost me about $11k +installation

My situation is more complicated because I already have micro inverter solar that's +$2k or so.
