Teachers and teacher educators, my new book, Creating a Neurodiversity-Affirming Classroom, comes out in July 2025!

Imagine a class where:
- there is no 'normal'; all 🧠s are expected + welcomed
- we teach about brains, metacognition, learning tools, + self-advocacy
- students are our best resources
The cover of Kara 's new book. The background is neutral. There are cartoon graphics circling the title of a green and turquoise communication board, a pink and turquoise fidget spinner, yellow headphones, a turquoise pop it, a white and green agenda, and a yellow and pink water bottle. The title text is in ombre rainbow colours and reads Creating a neurodiversity-affirming classroom. Below is a pink banner with white text that reads easy ways to achieve access, agency, and well-being for all. Kara Dymond is written in turquoise text.

Author Kara Dymond has spent her summer thinking sensorily, and enjoying nature and what it has to offer. Can we bring this ease into the classroom? How have you spent your summer?

I now have 10 more reasons to hate that Cineplex requires unmasking so they can record your face when you are just going to see a movie... (And conflating 😷 to criminality, which causes significant harm to those of us who are immunocompromised, disabled, and aware of our medically vulnerabilities!)

Today, students debated virtues and hazards of a world reliant on robots. A student said, crestfallen, they hoped to build giant robots "but I'll have to pay for the parts so that may limit me."

I said if they study robotics at uni, funding is possible. Beaming, they exclaimed, "THE DREAM GOES ON!"

Today, students were debating the merits of video games vs arcade games. One student said, while pointing at me, "People born in the 1900s only like arcade games because of nostalgia, no offense"...

I just turned 40 but I might as well be 400.
