The podcast format with question and answers was surprisingly effective in keeping my attention. However, it does take some advance planning, as the audio conversion took some time. I did read the paper to double check afterwards and did not find any errors other than mispronounced technical terms.

I converted a paper I wanted to read to a podcast, so I could listen to it while traveling. But so far only once, so it has not transformed my traveling experience yet... but it was nice this one time.

Nucleation surface seems to be the most popular answer, but there are also other answers: Preventing convection so the lower half of the water heats more, reducing contact resistance between stove and pot by pressing down, releasing surface bubbles that were on the pasta, ... more research needed!
