The first page of The Dwarf Who Flew by Duncan Wilson, a fairy tale #ComingSoon as a gorgeously #illustrated #FullColor 133 page #book
#Art by @andrefmsimoes.bsky.social

A painting of the dwarven village, with the various villagers going about their day, tending their gardens, mending their fences, baking bread thatching roofs, and hauling water. The titular Dwarf, a young child, is staring up into the sky, watching birds fly about with great ease. Text on the image is the opening lines of the book:

"There once was a dwarf who looked to the sky, watching the birds flit about in the heavens. Endless days and nights the lone dwarf sat on the mountaintop above his village, watching the tiny creatures of the sky weave among the clouds and swoop about the cliffs and crevasses. The other dwarves all thought him foolish, for they liked to keep their feet anchored on the ground whenever possible and saw little to admire in the lesser beasts of the air."

'When he gave advice it was often simple or self evident, and never was he convinced it was of any use, yet his supplicants thanked him and praised him. When society elects its sages and prophets, it is almost impossible to dissuade them of their beliefs, even for those so elected.'

'Another lost soul, another effortless apprehension, another bounty he would forget the details of before his afternoon tea. Just another contract. Just another job to get by another week in the modern world. They didn't even register as individuals anymore, barely human at all.'

"...beware the fair folk, their laughter and their lies, beware their cruel joke, when the laughter turns to cries..."

'Fiona hesitated, then lifted the eyepatch over her left eye "As I said, you are far luckier than you know. I too had a pixie kiss me, but it was upon my eye."'

Predictive text LLMs mix reality and illusion with no regard, and no intent for that matter, as they have no consciousness nor understanding of anything. So expect spicy lies with nuggets of truth.

The infill is So Sparkly on this TPU. I love it so.

Next phase of Ryu's mask for his school project is the decorations. It'll be a white Drama type mask with red spider lilies. I don't have any red anything, so we're using the TPU. It's flexible and will conform without snapping.

Two photos, at a diagonal to each other in a square frame. They both show a 3D print in progress. The build plate has a circular ring printed on it on luminous orange, the details of a spider lily blossom forming layer by layer. The right hand pic is further, with the infil grid catching the light.

'In but dreams and distress do we see the potentialities not probable, not possible, but preferable. Myriad mad melodies of mesmerizing mists, cacophonies of color and shimmering shapes, dancing delightfully with what may never be and what never was. Perhaps we are the illusion.'

'The age of legends, the age of wonder, the age of discovery, the age of the ancients, when the world was wondrous and wild. These times were spoken of with worshiping words in revered whispers. But life in that age was a struggle, and none who lived then would wish to return…'

Pen drawing of a twisted technologyscape that fills the entire background, but starts to flow into root and fleshy organic shapes towards the bottom of the page. Dominating this scene is a feminine figure in a squatting position whose lower torso, legs and hands also flow into the organic shapes. Her chest is bound by an iron bar with large rivets while her head is covered by a metallic globe with a singular eye in the center while metal tentacles emerge from her back. The enormous scale of her form is illustrated by silhouetted forms in the foreground along with various technological devices and wires

'Life's unfair it's true. Some days you eat some days you are eaten. Some days you feed on life some you feed another in its fairer days. Life is the one sort of day and then is the other. What comes in turn goes. But such thoughts are for the living and today is but another to while away in decay.'

'He always dreamed both by night and by day of somehow taking to the air like the birds and the bugs, soaring about among the clouds and dancing upon the winds. Many years did the lonely dwarf sit and watch on the cliffs of his mountain...'

Her voice caught a little at the emotional memory, the telling of the tale, the putting to word the wounds the angry mob she had once called friends and family had inflicted, hurting more than the recollection. She choked out through a knot in her throat, "I was ten."

Seeing the boy's natural revulsion, Fiona grunted and pulled the patch back in place, nodding and continuing their journey, explaining as they walked, "The villagers call it 'the evil eye', but the only evil it has brought me is the howls and jeers of the ignorant."
