🐚 Spécies général et iconographie des coquilles vivantes
Paris: Chez Rousseau: [1834-1880]

Illustration from a historical 19th-century book showing four detailed, hand-colored drawings of Pyrula shells. Two shells, labeled 1 and 2, are shown from a side profile and a front angle, featuring elongated, spiraled forms with prominent ridges and variegated brown, beige, and cream bands. The shells display a textured surface with natural shading highlighting their ribbed structure and flared openings. Text on the page includes the title "Pyrule (Pyrula)" and scientific names "Pyrula sinistrale" and "Pyrula perversa Lam." The style reflects precise scientific illustration typical of natural history works from 1834-1880.

Three key points:
1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty
3) This harms America, ridding us of talent and expertise

[New Paper] names Chaetoderma naga, a gigantic (>13 cm) new worm-mollusc from a cold seep! Like its sister-species C. shenloong, it probably relies on endosymbiotic bacteria for energy. We named it after Nāga, a snake-god from Asian mythologies!

In today's episode of otherworldly fungi: a close look at Polycephalomyces tomentosus! It's growing right alongside what's likely a species of slime mold.

A large and beautiful pinkish-red mushroom grows out of a thick bed of pine needles. Its stipe and cap are the same pretty color. The gills are slightly separated and appear almost page-like, which is common for Russula species, as far as I've observed.

It's #NautilusNight!⁣ The common name "paper nautilus" for the genus Argonauta comes from the Greek ναυτίλος nautílos, meaning "sailor". People once believed these octopuses used two of their arms as sails, as seen in this #SciArt from "Zoography" (1807) www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/54312693 🧪
