I always recommend that people watch the Universal and Hammer releases back to back, in order to gain an understanding of why Hammer was so huge back in the day. They pushed the envelope wherever possible.

Some would argue that this is the first slasher, some would say there was stuff before it; I say it's an excellent genre achievement by a director who deserves more recognition. I'll be revisiting this in December...

That's a good question. I have never seen Hanzo anywhere aside from the DVDs, the first of which turned out to be a bootleg and doesn't work. Zatoichi had moved from Hulu to HBO, but your safest bet now might be the Criterion streaming channel. I've been waiting for a Hanzo bluray release for years.

A great set for the money with a nice cover too. The first one is legendary; the sequels are fun. I don't hate the fourth installment nearly as much as most people seem to do, but I understand their disappointment. To me it's just another Jinn.

I really liked this when it was released, but now I feel like the Romero version actually aged better. It's an absolute, memorable genre classic, while this remake is just a fun watch.

A mostly forgettable and quite tame movie for Joe D'Amato. If you expect full frontal nudity and a shark that roams the ocean like some crazy food processor, you'll be disappointed. Unless you are a collector of this subgenre, you can skip it.

A fantastic film, based on an amazing book. The protagonist is trapped in a weird village, in a sand pit with no way out. The sand is a character, an ancient monster, consuming everything in its path; and Teshigahara films it without equal. A must see masterpiece of world cinema.
