My point is: if you have failed to acknowledge the ICC in the past, don’t expect the ICC to save you now. And the lack of support was (and probably still is) bipartisan. And if you do support the ICC and justice in general, don’t waste your energy on me, but take it to the streets.

You are fundamentally misunderstanding my point. I very well know the jurisdiction of the ICC. I am just annoyed by Americans casually making a catchphrase of the ICC for their own purposes, while they have never supported the Rome Statute.

The ICC is designed to step in whenever national courts are unwilling or unable to prosecute criminals who have committed crimes against humanity and/or similar crimes. If you’re paying attention, you might get a sense how that can happen.

I just can’t help being annoyed by Americans making a reference to ‘the Hague’, as the US is one of the very few countries that have consistently refused to acknowledge the ICC.

The thing is, courts don’t mandate. The lawmakers (in this case EU lawmakers) mandate, courts apply the rules.

Ook heeft de belastingrechter nagenoeg geen ruimte om te toetsen of het niet-betalen van de parkeerbelasting verwijtbaar is, dan wel of het in rekening brengen van de (volledige) kosten wel passend en nodig is.

The positive is that he never acknowledged Zelensky as a legitimate president and now it seems that he has agreed to meet him. This would mean that he now acknowledges both Ukraine as a nation state with Zelensky as its president. So there seems to be some change.
