I want to touch it so bad, it just looks so satisfying on a tactile level as well as the visual
It does feel a touch over-explained in places as though Huang doesn't fully trust us to grasp the thematic elements or the emotional/ethical issues at play; just a slightly lighter touch would have really lifted this. I did appreciate the ending; it steers out of the bleakness that threatens. 📚💙
Enka and Mathilde's friendship is both so powerful & so fragile, & a world where technology is used to further divide haves/have nots, and also threatens all concept of artistic originality, feels awfully close to our reality. 📚💙
I finished Ling Ling Huang's Immaculate Conception on...Friday? At some point last week while I was traveling. This was fascinating, an examination of jealousy & ambition in the art world, in a slightly near-future or alternate version of our world where technology threatens all. 📚💙
They're only quasi supernatural but Paraic O'Donnell has two and counting (The House of Vesper Sands and The Naming of the Birds)
It just never fails to warm my little heart every time they show interest in/curiosity about something. She asked how she could read more & I recommended Caelainn Hogan's Republic of Shame.
I'm teaching my intro students to write paper topic proposals this week & gave them an abstract/proposal I wrote for a conference back in February on poetry about the mother & baby homes in Ireland. One student stayed behind after class because she's never heard of them & just wanted to know more.
Of course exceptions were made for the dog, who is not "people" anyway, but a tiny little exemplar of perfection whose snuggles are restorative. Also she was pretty stoked about a daytime nap.
Endometrial biopsy was this morning and that absolutely sucked. Add in bloodwork and a flu shot and I'm done with people touching me for the day.
Julian has gotta come back for that one.

Josh Naylor played in Jordan 11 cleats made with over 8,000 crystals 🤯
Josh Naylor's sparkly cleats are SOMETHING
Gonna watch at least a few innings of Mariners/Blue Jays and since I have no dog in this fight, I am going to decide who to support based in which team has better GIFs when I search the team name.
I'm hoping to go see it with friends maybe this weekend!
I got invited to join a secret society on campus today, and obviously I cannot say more because it's SECRET, but it was MADE for me, or I was made for it (and is overall profoundly innocuous).
Not me sleeping through my first alarm to wake up for my 6:05 am flight (thank heavens I set a backup). Love to be ~f r a n t i c~ at 3:45 am.
Also, a dear friend has been watching my dog and sending me extremely cute photos, and it brings me joy to see both how well loved my dog is and how my dog delights my friend.
It was great. Baseball has been among our small joys & getting to watch together (rather than texting through the game) was perfect.
Traveled to a family wedding and seeing some extended game was nice but best of all has been seeing my mom. It's been a tough fall and I've missed her a lot, but last night during the reception we sneakily watched Shohei's amazing game on my phone.
Not missing me at all, I think.
Lmaoooooo I was doing the exact same thing tonight too
