Since it must be said loudly & repeatedly:

With many others, I'm an American celebrating international friendship, allies who safeguard freedom, & collaboration that respects:

In fact one woman took advantage of her ship being taken over by pirates as opportunity to evangelize which is objectively hilarious. Recalling God called her to preach & it didn't matter to whom, she refused to eat food that'd been stolen, gave them tracts, asked one about his mother, & so on.
"Hey Elizabeth are you quietly noting the names of pets of 20thC women preachers?"

I don't know Rufus, AM I? Sorry yes in case it's not clear one was Rufus.

"Are you also quietly noting women who preached or were taken hostage by pirates and/or Nazis while aboard ships?"

[flags yes in semaphore]
I watched or listened to a lot of the hearings.

Even with that, wow was all I could say after watching this.

It's framed really well.

There was so much fog + breaking news + overwhelm,

this is a helpful retrospective even aside from the subject himself.
BIG NEWS: When Adam Kinzinger stood up to Trump and risked everything, director Steve Pink captured it all. Meidas Studios just released our latest documentary β€˜The Last Republican’ on all major platforms. Watch the movie today!
That's a point he makes in the documentary, actually-that he and Cheney weren't courageous, they were just doing their jobs in a sea of cowardice. It's worth watching.
That man's gonna have such an awkward Thanksgiving dinner.

Meanwhile, ladies in the 1930s:
Also, if you're a citizen & they try this, don't you have the right to stay silent/in this case refuse to have your face scanned as a visual equivalent of silence? The right to stay silent is in part so you don't incriminate yourself. Isn't allowing your face to be scanned potentially incriminating?
New: Videos show ICE/CBP agents are scanning peoples' faces on the street to verify citizenship. ICE has tool to instantly look up unprecedented number of databases with just a photo

β€œI’m an American citizen so leave me alone”

β€œAlright, we just got to verify that”

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as β€œpure dystopian creep.”

Well this will be a giant lawsuit.

You can say a tech tool gives "definitive determination" all you want -

*it's not proof* and it's not judge jury and executioner.

OH MY GOSH, IF I FAIL CAPTCHA DOES THAT MEAN I'M NOT HUMAN!?

It's literally that easy to debunk this.
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Do seminaries need to require a How to People course? I feel like we need some intentional, basic, interpersonal interactions 101 reviews, because I know pastors are busy + tired + pulled in a million directions but my gosh you can't pull out a phone in a hospital waiting room to ask it what to say.
Imagining trying to explain to an irate parishioner that the incorrect profile of their deceased loved one in the newsletter was hallucinated by an "AI" tool tasked with writing a bio for All Saints Day. "I can't apologize enough..." or ending a delicate email with a lingering "use pastoral tone."

The chairs in the city council chamber look like very nervous muppets
Since 1920s & 30s. There was a birther conspiracy about New Deal architect Sec of Labor Frances Perkins in 30s.

In 1921, Sheppard-Towner Act got all kinds of labels (nat'l maternal & infant nutrition bill, a scale-up of public health work by Dr Josephine Butler).

The main story in the US right now:

elected reps at the national level keep extending their own vacation/"recess" instead of working on behalf of the American people.
American clergy who aren't in Chicago -

if you want to add your name to the "in solidarity" section of this broadly ecumenical open clergy letter, there's a link to the letter in this news article.
I still find people talking at cameras holding tiny microphones or tiny floofball microphones disorienting.

When? Did this happen? Can we pinpoint their advent to a specific month? Year?

When did the landslide of Tiny Mics begin?

Democracy scones!
The home of the O'Donovan family is being used as a polling station in Coolmoyne, Co Tipperary. Around 250 people are eligible to vote at the house and after they cast their ballot, they will be treated to a cup of tea, a slice of apple or rhubarb tart, or a scone | More: rte.ie/b/1540324
Any other time, this would be quite a story.

Well. It still is. Just a quiet one in the current US context.
King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Pope Leo XIV prayed together on Thursday during a historic visit to the Vatican.

Oh wow:

"During the fracas, a federal agent fired a pepper round that struck a (UCC) clergyman, Jorge Bautista, near the chin. The impact caked his face and clothing in orange powder. Bautista said the agent shot him in the face from about 5 feet away."

"'I’m in a lot of pain,'" Bautista texted…"
Pastor Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee.

Yes yes *not* Episcopalian, but I don't get many chances to bring up Dr. Lee and her Chinatown church. Pell St, I think? (I think she may be the only woman pastor I've found so far to have a post office dedicated to her.)
There's a Chinese Baptist church in NYC Chinatown that was pastored by a Chinese American suffragist with a great sense of outerwear style. She had a PhD in econ. Nearby post office is named after her now. She led the congregation for decades. Marched for suffrage when she herself couldn't benefit.
