It’s been a busy week for Electrify Britain! ⚡

Our Director of Policy & Advocacy, Ben Westerman, has been out and about, contributing to key conversations about Britain’s energy future.

Here’s what we've been up to 👇

#ElectrifyBritain #Electrification #CPC2025
electrifygb.bsky.social
Rebalancing policy costs across fuels could:
💷 Save heat pump users £182/year
🔌 Save EV drivers £64/year
👉 Time to stop penalising cleaner choices
👉 Time for levy reform
👉 Time to #ElectrifyBritain - fairly

Govt schemes are nudging families towards gas - not cleaner, electric options.

💥 The ‘spark gap’ - difference between electricity & gas prices - is the highest in 2 years
⚡ Electricity is 4.19x more expensive than gas
We’re penalising people for going green.
electrifygb.bsky.social
The “Spark Gap” is widening - and it’s holding Britain back ⚠️

✅ 68% of electric meters in Britain are smart
But look closer:
❌ Only 39% of non-domestic meters are smart
🔥 For every 1 heat pump (ECO), 2 new gas boilers go in
📉 0 EPC recs for heat pumps… 121K for gas
electrifygb.bsky.social
🌍 The road ahead:

We must:
🔋 Electrify vans & HGVs faster
💡 Expand smart charging
📉 Help households cut charging costs

The momentum is real - let’s keep driving it forward.
For people. For the economy. For the planet.

⚠️ What’s holding us back?

⚠️ Just 1% of HGVs are electric
⚠️ Vans are also lagging
⚠️ Only 49% of home chargers use smart tariffs
⚠️ Smart levy reform could save EV households £64/year

We’ve come far - now we need to go further.
electrifygb.bsky.social
🚌🚄 Electrification is spreading:

✅ Buses & rail making progress
✅ Smart tariffs save drivers £££
✅ More affordable EVs entering market
✅ Home charging is mainstream
But some vehicles are still behind. 👇
electrifygb.bsky.social
🚗⚡ Britain’s EV shift is real:

✅ 22% of new cars sold are electric
✅ £901/year savings with smart home charging
✅ 1M+ home chargers installed
✅ EV price gap down to ~£10k
✅ 65% say EVs outperform petrol/diesel
✅ Just 3% would go back to ICE
Let’s dive in 👇
electrifygb.bsky.social
At Electrify Britain, we’re making solar + storage more accessible, affordable & rewarding - because the UK’s clean energy future depends on it.
🔌 Let’s keep the momentum going.

💷 The benefits are clear:

Households can save up to £1,092/year

Batteries (~£10k) typically pay back in ~10 years

87% would recommend solar to friends
❗But 63% still say upfront cost is the biggest barrier
electrifygb.bsky.social
📈 Installations are accelerating.

Solar installs jumped 88% in just 3 years

At the current 36% annual growth rate, we’re on track to hit 9M installs by 2030

And it’s not just panels...
🔋 Battery installs rose 131% in the 1st half of 2025 vs last year (18,000 systems!)
electrifygb.bsky.social
🌞 Solar is surging in Britain - but can we keep the momentum going?

Over 1.8 million homes now have solar panels - that’s 20% of the 2030 target. A few years ago, this felt distant. Now? We're catching up fast.

We don’t need new tech - we need better policy.

📉 Cut electricity costs
📈 Make clean heat the obvious choice
Time to stop subsidising fossil fuels and start building a truly electrified Britain.

#ElectrifyBritain #EVs #SolarPower
electrifygb.bsky.social
What’s holding heat pumps back?

1️⃣ Gov’t schemes like ECO still fund 2x more gas boilers than clean heat
2️⃣ Electricity costs ~4x more than gas
The result? Clean heat looks expensive - because it is. Policy isn’t matching uptake goals.

🎙️ "The problem isn’t the tech - consumers who switch love it. The problem is electricity bills."

Our Policy Director Ben Westerman joined Times Radio to talk about electrification in Britain.

✅ EVs & solar are thriving
⚠️ Heat pumps? Still hitting major barriers
electrifygb.bsky.social
That’s why we launched the State of Electrification Tracker - full of data on heat pumps, EVs, solar, and public attitudes.

To speed up adoption, tackling cost is key.

Our analysis shows a 50:50 rebalancing could save:
💸 £182/year for heat pump homes
🔌 £64/year for EV drivers
Fairer bills = faster electrification.
electrifygb.bsky.social
📈 Heat pump installations have tripled since the Boiler Upgrade Scheme launched - proof that smart public support works.

But we’re just at the start of the journey. 🚀

♥️ People love electric tech - higher satisfaction than fossil fuels.

BUT cost is still the biggest barrier (for 1 in 2).

Fixing levies could help:
💷 £182/yr saved with a heat pump
💷 £64/yr saved for EV drivers
electrifygb.bsky.social
⚡ First findings are in:

🚗 1 in 5 new cars sold is electric
🌞 1.8M homes have solar - on track for 9M by 2030
💬 Just 3% of EV owners would go back to petrol/diesel
🔥 Heat pumps? Still way off target - 59k installed vs 600k/yr goal
