Luckily I won't be running for NYC office, because if it gets out how much I love Montreal bagels it'll be all over. (I love New York bagels too! They're a different species.)

Fantastic! Are you at the Celtic Colours Festival?

Suggested to client that we cut a figure in this paper and their response was basically "But it's so BEAUTIFUL!" and it really is.
(Some parts of this paper are pretty dense; readers DESERVE to see this gorgeous figure! 😀)

Publishing program at Toronto Metropolitan University in Canada. In the particular paragraph, it's reasonable to leave 1,000-pound, OR go with half-tonne or even 500-kilogram. the point being that even when metric is the default, they need to use judgment & context. Nobody has *weighed* this moose!😀

Oh, I've gotta put this one into an exercise for my copyediting students! They struggle to apply the specified style while ALSO thinking about making sense in the context. I have one where they are to change "a 1000-pound moose charged me" to metric and half go "a 454-kilogram moose charged me"... 🤦

Hilarious. I'm like, yep, yep, yep, that's why I love that show.

I am glad you have one that works well for you! My husband's issues have been vastly helped by a chiropractor as well. Before he began monthly visits, he twice ended up so bad he had to borrow my mother's old walker to get from bedroom to bathroom.

Oh, there are 11 causes listed! But I only see ten "OTHER" causes.

I googled "prolapsed" and the description was pretty much "a disc sticking out between the vertebrae." I'd have for sure queried the author to clarify--& to for heaven's sake, use the same wording in the labels and the text! 😀

Nice catch!
I would have guessed it as a letter o in a one-point-larger font. (I'm an old-school TNY user, where the number 0 is not just aller but differently proportioned.)

Doesn't it say "ten other causes" in addition to a protruding disc, which is one of the 11 items--"prolapsed disc," sixth one down on the right?

That would make it technically correct, though confusingly worded!

OMG! I watched that religiously when I came home from school in the 6th grade. Had such a crush on his younger partner (Randolph Mantooth--can't believe I remember that name). Yeesh, Kevin Tighe seemed awfully old already to 11-yr-old me back then...

I always love visiting grocery stores when I travel. So much fun stuff about a culture comes out.

Ditto! (We live in a very small, not very cosmopolitan, town, so a multicultural grocery store or a Belgian fast-food place is very exciting to us.)

Oh, but it's a great place for quick & casual meals, too. Smoked meat sandwiches. Rotisserie chicken. Wee family-owned North African restos. Frites Alors! (Belgian Tintin-themed French-fry place). I could live a week in Mile End on baguette, bagels, and cold cuts, cheese, & dips from local places. 😋

Both are Montreal-style, really a different product than New York-style. But so good! Montreal bagels are thin, with a serious hole. They come in more flavours now, but plain sesame or poppy seed are traditional. Eat them FRESH (you'll likely get 'em still warm), or within 2 days toasted w/ spreads.

Also, you may have plans for food, but a favourite thing we do in Mile End (my brother lives there) is hit the local grocery store P.A. (on Parc at Fairmount). Fantastic selection of foods serving the multicultural neighbourhood, well priced. Especially awesome selection of dips, spreads, cheeses.

Someone else has probably already told you this, but the two iconic Montreal bagel shops - Fairmount and St. Viateur - are both in Mile End. It is required to declare your loyalty to one or the other.
