Blue -> supernatural & hair color
Black -> style
Red-> Hair color
White/Silver/Gray -> fog, clouds
Green -> Growing things

I describe things, and color is part of that. It is part of a baroque writing style.

#SundayLit Prompt: Colour

The wardresses at the Bearfort jail were a cynical and hard-bitten lot, who thought they had seen and heard everything, and they treated Jackie’s cries of distress with initial contempt. Anyone might feign illness, to try and get a softer bed in the infirmary. A quick look through the spyhole, however, had changed their minds quite quickly. Even they had never seen so much vomit come from one person, and never any that was such a virulent shade of green.

Happiness:

The next day, rather late in the morning, Aiella burst into Burroughs’ cottage in a state of high excitement, with Eliana following rather more calmly behind.
“I danced, Burroughs!” she cried, so loudly that Tess woke up and let off a bark. “Sorry, Tess. But I did! I danced at a ball, with everybody, and I wore a lovely dress and shiny shoes and oh, you should have seen me!”
“And so I did see thee, lass, and a proper picture thou looked, too.”
“What? How did you see me?”
“Yon miss there,” nodding to Eliana, who stood smiling in the doorway “sorted it for me. I was sat up in the gallery, and her maid brought me summat to eat and a drop of beer, and I saw it all. Eh, but thou called to mind thy grandmother. A bonny lass she was, and very great at the dancing.”
Aiella whirled round to face Eliana, who was laughing now. “Did you do that? Did you sneak Burroughs in just so he could see me?”
“Yes, I did, and he had a fine old time up there, I hear, cracking stories with the musicians, and drinking about five pints of beer.”
Aiella flung her arms about her, and squeezed her tight. “Oh, that was such a kind thing!” she cried. “Oh, Ellie, I do love you!”
And if Burroughs noticed a strange, pained expression cross Eliana’s face as she heard this he never told anybody about it.

And here came Cole now, carrying a basket and a book, accompanied by his warm smile and a large dog at his heels.

“Hello, Maximilian,” Leo crooned, rubbing the dog behind the ears. “Good afternoon, Mr Fluffy Face.”

Cole set down his encumbrances and spread wide his arms. “Wounded to the quick,” he announced. “An iota of the same enthusiasm, please.”

Leo obligingly said, “Good afternoon, Mr Fluffy Face,” and congratulated himself on exactly matching it to the way he spoken to Max.

“Better,” Cole said, though Leo noted with amusement that he rubbed his fingers across his impeccably-groomed short beard as he took his seat.

Here are a few suggestions to show happiness:
- Outward physical cues and behaviours
- Internal physical sensations
- Cognitive responses
- Perhaps a character wishes to hide their happiness to another character, but not to the reader. How would you show this?

I like that. I also like tapping into the human emotion when it comes to novel experiences. No one has done interstellar space travel, but we've all been bored shitless on planes, buses, airports etc. Through emotion and feeling, we can make the reader connect to some very weird concepts.
