What if one of the problems with democracy is that we pretend the world is made of only humans?

Half of these miserable cretins are genuinely evil ideologues with a plan; the other half care only for money/power, but it ends up being the exact same thing.

I don't know how any of them look their kids in the eye. Actually, I don't believe that they do—except to see their own reflections.

“Something that was thought to be rare is now seemingly becoming widespread."

But sure, let's distract people by RIFing & disappearing them, making healthcare costs skyrocket, & making up whoppers about Dem cities so our friends in oil & gas can put the screws to us & the planet a few more years.

The question for governors like @governorferguson.bsky.social is: when the AI boom deflates or goes utterly bust, what will that leave us with: new renewables and transmission we can use to modernize our economy, or fossil fuel extensions/expansions, soaring electricity prices, & zero jobs?

yes, the billionaire conspiracy continues to be the most underrated part of all this. Trump does not win, and certainly does not get away with all this, without the sudden turn in all the formerly liberal/moderate/apolitical billionaires buying up the media, buying votes, going all-in for trump

"Just so we’re clear about this: A recent college graduate whose only work experience was a stint at an infamously fraudulent crypto exchange & a job...from which he was fired for leaking confidential information for personal gain, has maneuvered his way into managing $1.5b."

AI profiteering is now indistinguishable from trolling
And what that says about the state of the AI bubble

Africa gets more sunshine hours than any other continent. It has some of the highest levels of solar irradiance — the power of the sun per square meter — in the world, with "almost unlimited" potential for solar energy according to the African Development Bank. https://cnn.it/3KKAPl1

In his ONLY term, you mean. Harrell is a bully and a terrible administrator whose interests are defined by those of his big-money donors.

He's missing most things! But if he can help persuade Trump to back off his homicidal tendencies towards solar, that would be a fine thing.

Who do we mean when we say “Black Seattle”?

This mayoral race isn’t about personalities—it’s about whether symbolism becomes substance. What do “seats at the table” mean if the rest of us go hungry?

My latest column for the @soseaemerald.bsky.social
COLUMN | What This Mayoral Election Owes 'Black Seattle'
From City Hall to the Central District, Seattle's mayoral race raises deeper questions: Who speaks for "Black Seattle," and what does real representation look like beyond the ballot? Marcus Harrison G...

Bloomberg research found wholesale electricity up ~270% in areas near data centers

It doesn't seem like nearly enough people are taking it seriously

One A.I. image isn't too much energy, but 5 million videos? Per day/hour/minute whatever. It's not sustainable

AI Data Centers Are Sending Power Bills Soaring
Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers.

But if Repubs can make clean energy permitting terrible, what choice do Dems have but to sign on to "permitting reform" and hope Repubs will, contrary to the last 20 years of evidence, uphold their word? They can focus on distributed energy, which requires fewer permits and is broadly popular.

"Permitting reform" bill text will certainly mention provisions that seem to make permitting clean energy less terrible (in addition to protecting/expanding fossil fuels). Dems would be fools to believe Repubs will follow the spirit or letter of those law provisions.

Cities are developing a new approach to developing housing: Integrating it into mixed-use library projects. These investments improve neighborhood vitality, add housing & improve services.

In new research @urbaninstitute.bsky.social, I create a database of such projects & point to success stories ⏬
Aging Libraries Could Offer Cities a Unique Opportunity to Build New Housing While Improving Public Services
Since 2000, more than 1,800 apartment units have been built in combined library-housing developments. These projects not only address local housing needs but…

Fair wages and protections (inadequate in both cases) for us, not for them....

Laws are not laws if they don't apply equally—unless of course "we" want to go back to the days of the 3/5 compromise.
