Fascinated by everything to do with the natural world, though insects are my main focus. Paint a little. Deep in rural South Norfolk, UK https://www.youtube.com/@philipwilkins https://www.peregrineproductions.co.uk

Thanks
That would be a first for me 😁
I need some help #teammoth
Is this a Scarce Bordered Straw, or am I in completely the wrong ball park?
From south Norfolk last night

That's fascinating
I have seen many insects impaled on spiky plants - usually after bad weather and I have always assumed it was accidental
Impaled on grass seems strange
My suspicion would be a bird storing food
Thank you very much. Unfortunately it flew off just after this photo was taken. So, I will probably never know for certain

Can this little beauty from last night's trap in south Norfolk be identified to species? I think it is Parornix

Purple Hairstreaks are starting to emerge at an accessible colony Stockton in South Norfolk. If you would be interested in taking a look we will be setting a date for a field trip in the next few days. Contact [email protected] to express an interest. #savebutterflies📷 Bob Eade BC
This handsome beast is the Robberfly Choerades marginatus at #wheatfen Surlingham, Norfolk

Blue sky doesn't seem to be allowing me to upload photos at the moment
Yesterday's WCBS near Bungay, Suffolk was fairly low on numbers, but it was nice that the second most numerous species (after Meadow Brown) was Small Tortoiseshell. Also nice to find 2 Small Heaths in the field where there is usually a single one 😂 #butterflies #wcbs
Always nice to see a new species
Amazing to find a huge web of Small Eggar caterpillars on a new hawthorn hedge in farmland in South Norfolk

Thanks, it's quite early - they don't usually start flowering until mid June, so I am hoping for many more!

Urgent! Volunteers needed! Live near Ely, Cambridgeshire? Time to make 2 visits (1 in June, other in Sept) to a farm ditch? Why not help ‪@rspbengland.bsky.social‬
survey Water Voles to help farmers conserve them? volunteer.rspb.org.uk/opportunitie... @elystandard.bsky.social‬ ‪#cambirds
😂 I will stick with Water Crowfoot
Thanks I suppose I might need to wade out and collect some to confirm the species...
Thought I would post some pictures for #wildflowerhour
Both these species from our fields
Our 'meadow' is not a Bird's-foot Trefoil monoculture (honest)
I think that the Water Crowfoot is Ranunculus peltatus
