Out of 103 entries on the faculty page at the beginning of '25, 36 are not there today (35% reduction). The department is only 2/3 as big as it was.

What's the story, here? I'm not in academia (anymore). I just looked at the internet archive for the UNC Chapel Hill biology dept's faculty page (for 15 Jan. 2025) vs. today, and 36 faculty are gone (2 TA profs added). 7 of those gone were tied to Quito, Ecuador; 10 were emeritus.
