JD Vance just claimed that when settlers arrived in the New World, they “found widespread child sacrifice,” adding that “Christian civilization ended the practice.”
Archaeologists, including those specializing in North American history, are calling this a flat-out lie. There is no evidence of widespread child sacrifice among First Nations.
To say that about Indigenous people is historically false, deeply racist, and disgustingly revisionist.

And why is he saying "Turtle Island"?? Because saying "North American", as he means, sounds even worse:

Canada was called "Turtle Island" because many Indigenous peoples have creation stories where the land of North America was formed on the back of a great turtle. This name is rooted in the belief that the earth was created on the turtle's shell, making it a spiritual and cultural name for the continent that predates the name "Canada".
