Every other paper coming out of IARC is a MR study 🤔

😫 You can read the article with RemovePaywall. He's an expert on epigenetics...
And one of the other co-authors of the review is known in my experience to find an association with neurodevelopment for any exposure.

I guess it is a lil more difficulty than finding NC exposures or outcomes, but considering all the problems with mediation it’d be worth it.

Is anyone aware of papers using "negative control mediators" for mediation analysis?

Looking at job offers (both academia and industry) and it’s basically all “AI” & Co. 😔
And WTF is “experience with LLM” for an academic post in epidemiology??

Call for applications: 12-month postdoctoral contract (Sciences Po - INED, TIERED Project) for a research project studying the mediating role of environmental risks in the relationship between migration status and health at birth in France (e.g., heat, pollution). www.sciencespo.fr/cris/files/P...

I do not even have a formal training in epidemiology. And still, I firmly believe that I stumbled into causal inference by pure chance. I certainly do not expect others to just come to realize these things. I think it's a false universalization...
epilorenzofabbri.com
Again, just to make it clear, I generally agree with those into causal inference. I try to put into practice everything I learn. But lately I have seen a surge of posts clearly ridiculing those w/o this knowledge. Perhaps it'd be better to look at the institutions rather than individuals.
epilorenzofabbri.com
It’s not extreme but, right now, I believe it’s unjust because after looking at the requirements of many epi degrees, I rarely see courses devoted to causal reasoning. And unfortunately most people do not have the privilege to attend eg UNC or Johns Hopkins Uni.
epilorenzofabbri.com
Well, experts in causal inf. do not have to be epi., and the other way around.
While I generally strive for rigorous research, sometimes here people sound a little too extreme. Could they provide a mathematical estimand? Sure! But longitudinal to me has a clear meaning.
epilorenzofabbri.com
I see this as a failure of the "causal people" more than epidemiologists. To me longitudinal means not cross-sectional, very simply.

Not in the abstract but for me very interesting was using the ICE version of g-formula as in work of @pausalz.bsky.social but for mixtures which I haven’t seen yet.

IVs were SNPs from in-house GWAS of metabolites of chemicals. Further used in 2SMR.
Negative controls: paternal BMI pregnancy, childhood consumption proc. meat, maternal smoking adolescence, indicator of censoring (whether took part to follow up since influenced by SES).

Since I didn’t get the green light for a preprint, I post the abstract here cause I still believe it’s a good and interesting paper. Even if with lots of limitations.
