Chiitan has a dream.
I hope that one day the term LGBT will become a thing of the past.
I will continue to spread my message until we live in a world where everyone can love freely and is free from persecution and discrimination.
Until then, let's all support each other🤍

The first three pages of my latest work, 'Under the Stall: A Brief Illustrative Essay about #RomanRoy (from #SuccessionHBO), Gay Cruising Culture, & Intimacy' for the 'Roman Roy is GAY!' #zine by @/cleeeffa on Twxtter. 🔗⬇
The title page for my piece, 'Under the Stall: A Brief Illustrative Essay about Roman Roy, Gay Cruising Culture, & Intimacy'. The accompanying illustration is done in a monochromatic pink palette, featuring a sketched-out Roman Roy. He is drawn from the waist up, facing the viewer with one hand on his hip. His face is obscured by a drawn rendering of Duchamp's 'Fountain', referencing Magritte's 'The Son of Man'.

The accompanying illustration is done in a monochromatic pink palette, depicting a screenshot paintover of a scene from Season Two, Episode Six, 'Argestes', where Roman Roy and Eduard Asgarov stand in a bathroom while Eduard discreetly snorts cocaine. Above the illustration are lines of dialogue from the episode.

ROMAN: “So, how’re you doing with…?”

EDUARD: “Y’know, just walking around, getting pitched to fuck.”

Beneath the illustration, the text reads as follows.

Roman is regularly “pimped out” by his father and those under his siege to form connections with his use of fraternization instead of by professional means. These encounters are never encouraged towards women with comparable wealth and power (i.e., Rhea Jarell, Nan Pierce), as that task is usually given to Shiv or Kendall. Many of his business negotiations take place in bathrooms, or with the presence and discussion of bodily fluids. These interactions call to mind cruising culture: where gay men meet in unofficially-sanctioned public spaces with the express purpose of having anonymous casual sex. The first example of this is in 'Argestes', where Roman meets Eduard. In the script, Roman specifically is the one who led the conversation with Eduard into the bathroom, implying that this is an environment that is comfortable for him to engage in negotiations – or, at the very least, is one where he has experience in initiating.

The next section is a snippet from the script.

Maybe in the bathroom they do a couple of hits from a little spoon discreetly.* Eduard looks at Roman.

* Kieran always felt Roman wasn’t really a drug user so he always swerved those moments when it was suggested that the character might do them.

Cruising in public spaces, especially ones that are more confined, is in its own way a sort of liminal space. The world shrinks down to the bare essentials. I think this quote from Shiv in ‘Prague’ works here: “There's no god, there's no anything. There's just people in rooms trying to be happy.” For the scene in Logan’s bathroom in ‘What It Takes’, Roman and Mencken are surrounded by pristine opulence. It’s gaudy, almost, at just how “perfect” it all looks. White tiles and golden accents, housing an unholy matrimony between the two men that perfectly encapsulates Succession’s use of contrast for its satire – the glossy sheen of wealth implying sophistication that covers the seedy underbelly of political and economic manipulation.

Love the idea!! What kind of recipes will you be including? Collage and photography is always such a great way to explore creating so don’t feel bad that you can’t draw well! You don’t need to draw well to make good art!

This has been such a bittersweet year for me. On one hand my career is finally going up like I had always worked for, my work is in shows and I’m making new work. On the other side of the coin this year I also got dumped, mentally and physically drained and generally have been more lonely than ever.

I’m not interested in escapism. It’s so nihilistic of people to only engage in spaces of escape instead of making things a reality in the real world, with real people who need our real help.

I want to find that beauty, no run away from it. I want to nurture it and help it grow.
