I fucking hate AI but if someone could make AI that exercised for me, I’d be all over that shit.

That is so awesome! If you make it to the opening introduce yourself, I love meeting bluesky folks.

Every morning is a battle to the death with Fifi for my writing utensils. The pencil I write in my planner with he will draw blood for.

Here’s a very silly custom ceramic orchid pot I finished last week that I’m extremely delighted with.
An orchid pot with a comic!

Lady: you’re not acting like a person who has done enough therapy

Flower 1: I’m a freaking mega genius
Flower 2: don’t step on my vibes

Flower 3: no toxic positivity here

Cat: Holly shit you’re terrifying View of the woman on the pot

Another morning, another comic featuring stacks of girls. Also, because I think there are probably some pen nerds here, a photo of the brass Y Studio fountain pen I use to draw these comics every morning
A one panel sketchbook comic featuring 6 girls in a precarious pile. Here are the things the girls are each saying:

-please stop

- don’t do that

-hey! Stop!

-can you guys just not?

-don’t do that

-no Photo of brass Y studio pen being held by a white hand with the comic and an orange cat in the background

One week from today my new solo show, CACOPHONY, opens in Portland, Oregon at the Purple Door Gallery! I’ve been working on this show for over a year and can’t wait to share the over 100 pieces I’ve created for it.
Flier featuring 3 handpainted ceramic goblets and hand lettering. Flier reads:

I feel like the next few days of my morning comic are going to be workshopping what I can do with these stacks of girls.
One panel comic featuring a stack of girls sitting on to of each other. Words from the top down:

First girl: The view is great from up here

Second girl: Why are we doing this exactly

Third girl: So that we can gain clarity

Fourth girl: I’m being crushed by the weight of it all

I wish any of that would help, but with every accusation this administration makes, it is also a confession. Considering what they are accusing Portland of, I think this has the potential to get very bad. I’m glad you are staying positive but I cannot as long as this toxic rhetoric persists.

I don’t get terrified easily, but the unhinged level of lies and deceit being spun about our fair city of Portland at the moment has me genuinely terrified.

God bless this frog, the only thing keeping me going.

No matter how many brunch places open here it is still always impossible to get a table no matter the day of the week.

I won’t be doing a shop update today but my shop is well stocked with ceramic and art comics if you’re looking for a little treat in these dark times.

I think the thing that freaks me out most about everything the administration is saying about Portland is that they seem to live by the idea that every accusation is a confession. What they are accusing us of is pretty terrifying, so is that what they are planning on doing to our city?
erikarier.bsky.social
I feel like the media is at this point just actively aiding the administration in the mischaracterizations of Portland.

How much longer can I take this level of global and professional stress, friends? I need like a year long artist residency to Antarctica or something.

I’ve been so busy preparing for my show that sadly I did not get to draw my husband a birthday card. He looks forward to my morning the comics with the anticipation of a 7 year old waiting for the comic section of the newspaper 50 years ago though so today’s comic is for him.
A three panel comic with two girls and a snake

Panel 1

Girl 1: Her can you 2 do me a favor?

Girl 2 & snake: sure

Panel 2:

Girl 1: <whisper whisper whisper >

Girl 2 & snake: sure we can do that

Panel 3:

All three characters: happy birthday, joel

Thank you! These are all for an exhibit I have opening in about a week and I’ll be posting a ton of photos from it.

Please, push against this narrative whenever you come across it. If you know people who believe this send them every video you can find showing that we are a peaceful city full of Americans just trying to get by like everyone else…well regular Americans with much better coffee.
erikarier.bsky.social
In larger cities, federal forces can’t possibly pull off massive things without the world noticing. Portland itself doesn’t even have a million residents, and my fear is that federal agents can do a lot more damage in a city with such a small population.
erikarier.bsky.social
Portland is a peaceful beautiful city. I will not even go down the road of, “of course we have our problems,” because every city has problems. There is nothing here that warrants any level of federal intervention. We are also not a big city, and this is what makes me afraid.
erikarier.bsky.social
Friends, the rhetoric this administration is using about Portland, OR, the city in which I live, is growing incredibly alarming. My fear that they are going to come here and start doing the things they say are happening here themselves feels like a very real threat.
erikarier.bsky.social
The more ambitious the slower you need to dry and the more carefully you need to fire.
erikarier.bsky.social
It happens very rarely for me. In a show like that, they are rushing the drying process which is what is going to cause most of the breakage.
