You’re not loud, you’re not demanding,
You don’t bend things to your will.
Not imposing or commanding,
You are humble, meek and still.

There’s an air of kind politeness
In the things you say and do,
And your deference hides brightness
From the ones that challenge you.

Your integrity is peerless
And you will not let things slide.
You are caring, bold and fearless,
With strong values as your guide.

You’re a shelter in this torrent
Of abusive arrogance,

People hear my words,
but never their meaning.
My thoughts arrive in colors
no one else can see.

My feelings come in waves
others will never feel.
They see my silhouette,
the shape of my body,
but never the depth.

They call me distant,
never realizing their own shallowness
is what deters me.

I am really not difficult,
only written in a language
most never care to learn.

They expect a polished, clean surface,
unprepared for my polluted ocean.

And I know now,
to be misunderstood
is no tragedy at all,

keeping memory fragments sorted—
a buried body beneath the floorboards.
How did it get there?

A shift—
new setting, and I’m running,
chasing a lost moment.
I’m caught.
I push against the membrane—
