This #marxistmonday it's important to remember that its a hostage exchange - not a release - and that 2,000 of the 10,000 Palestinian captives being held in illegally in Israeli camps are being swapped for 20 Israelis being held in Gaza.
Release ALL Palestinian hostages now!

The Red Cross is overseeing the logistics of the prisoner exchange, including the transfer of Palestinian detainees to a designated medical point in Khan Younis, set up inside Nasser Hospital specifically for this day.

Doctors and nurses at the site say they are standing by to receive the prisoners, who will undergo medical checks before being reunited with their families.

Thousands of Palestinians have gathered outside the hospital, waiting to welcome the released detainees. Witnesses say the atmosphere is one of anticipation and relief, with families arriving from across Gaza in hopes of seeing their loved ones.

Medical staff say prisoners released in previous exchanges often arrive exhausted, weak and malnourished, after months in detention under harsh conditions. Many are also described as mentally drained from their time in custody.

According to British state media, only the 20 Israeli captives exist. The 2000 Palestinian captives they are being swapped for don't appear anywhere in the livestream documenting the 'hostage releases'. Palestinians are not seen as human.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Raghad. Raghad is 22 years old and was finishing her studies to be a nurse. She wanted to go into nursing because her mother had a stroke that made her lose movement in her arms and legs. They are now displaced with her 10 siblings.

Genocide is not just about bodies, its about making places unliveable

Rajagopal, the UN special rapporteur on housing, has stressed that Palestinians in Gaza will be forced to cope with the lasting psychological effects of seeing their homes and entire communities destroyed across the enclave.

“Home is far more than four walls and a roof. Home is basically a repository of peoples’ hopes and aspirations and dreams and particularly, memories … Those are the things that make people into humans ultimately,” he told Al Jazeera.

“What happens when homes are destroyed on a massive scale and an entire community is forced to flee or scatter to the wind, is that it destroys the possibility of the members of the community becoming human again.

“The psychological impacts and trauma are profound, and that’s what we are seeing right now as people are returning to northern Gaza.”

He added that the recovery process will likely take generations. “It’s like another Nakba,” said Rajagopal, referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine when Israel was created in 1948, which still affects Palestinians today.

“What has happened in the last two years is going to be something similar.”
