Yes agreed - devoured all of his books fiction & scifi. Always loved his writing. Also enjoying Alastair Reynolds who does a similar style of grand - Culture-like SF writing.

Same with broadband - moved away from all the major suppliers (now Hey Broadband 1Gb symmetric for £27 a month unlimited use - fixed for 2 yrs no mid term rise)

I’ve given up with all the major suppliers. I buy my own phone (bought my last one through Apple - cost £34 a month interest free) and now use Spusu which uses the Orange network (far better than O2 or Vodafone around my way) for £5 a month.

Yes I liked it too. There has been some criticism that you don’t see what happens but that misses the point of the film - it’s about humans & their reactions under extreme pressure & not whether Chicago gets obliterated. I think it is better because you don’t see the outcome.

76 - I always remember being told when I started my first full time job at 18 that was the age I had to get to before I was costing the bank money (in terms of my pension contributions) - assuming I worked with them until retirement at 65 (final salary scheme back in the day as well) - 11 years…

Never forget that during the Cold War the UK and most of Western Europe were the expendable pawns in the event of a nuclear war with Russia. All that BS over the years about the ‘special relationship’ with the US would have gone in the push of a button.

It is - and you’re left with the terrible feeling of what more you could have done (to which the answer is very little, but that doesn’t help much). As soon as I heard the news about Ricky Hatton, I thought: suicide & so it has turned out. I think it is the biggest killer in men under 50 now.

I’ve also seen the other end - losing my best friend of 40+ years to suicide about 18 months ago. That is something I would wish on no one.

It’s horrendous. The mental health issues for whatever reason are more prevalent (or more well recognised). I’ve seen my own kid’s struggles & those of many friends - no longer in mainstream education, self harming - it is a full blown crisis & yet the problems are people in small boats..

Yes this is my issue too. I support RBL (my grandfather and 9 great uncles fought in WW1 - with remarkably only 2 of them killed) - but I dislike the rampant nationalistic overtones of Farage and his notjob buddies.
