Rubbish.. The best story is the chase for the Wooden Spoon. With Pec's goal securing 3 points for LA Galaxy, DC United have a pretty firm grip on the Spoon. The only way they could fumble this honor away would be winning in Atlanta next weekend.

That would probably be the reason for the dismissal. The company would not want to face a barrage of complaints on social media that they're 'tolerating' bad behavior of some sort. That's the essence of cancel culture.

At-will employment has nothing to do with right-to-work states, except there's less unionization in such states. The employee has no real standing to challenge dismissal, unless there's a contract or company policy to contrary.

As for the company's reputation?

So long as no one hears about it. If you're an at-will employee, you can be fired at any time for any or no reason. If you have a contract, it might give you some process or protection, but it's got f**k-all to do with 1st Amendment.

What does it actually solve?

The teams that get promoted -- especially to the top flight are nearly always relegated either the next year or the year after. So, it isn't really boosting the overall quality of the league. Probably having the opposite effect, because the instability limits spending.

The First Amendment applies to Government action (or action by pseudo-government organ).

If anyone is thinking it protects them at a private company, then we really need to do a better job of civics instruction.
