In the majority of cases, we are talking about sons/daughters who are choosing other careers, rather than farming. It's a stretch to think that they are choosing those other careers because of how dear old dad ran the farm. Farming is hard, low-profit and doesn't align well with higher ed.

At this point, there are 1.3 million farms run by people over 65 but only 300,000 run by people under 35. The result will be more smaller farms getting absorbed by corporations - who will only operate them when they make enough profit. Food production will disappear in the US/Canada and move to ??.

You SHOULD care. Farming is no longer seen as a viable "career" for young people and those who currently run farms are getting out of the business - often unwillingly. When the entire agri sector collapses, the consequences will be disastrous. Blaming people for bad political choices will do nothing
