I'm not sure if a gospel funk rendition of the Mahā-mantra is the most late-60s/early-70s thing I've heard, but it's certainly the most I've heard in a while.

Catching up on 'Buked & Scorned, and there's a decent amount of Jamaican gospel on the last episode.

As someone whose familiarity with Jamaican music starts at about 1960, it's interesting listening musically.

Through the Morning, Through the Night isn't quite as good an album as The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark, not least because it leans more heavily on covers than Gene Clark's original compositions. But "I Bowed My Head And Cried Holy" is still a great take on country gospel.

Actually, I lied. One more.

This one isn't quite gospel, but it is religious music. (I'm sure I've posted it before.)

Document Records is a label that's very dangerous for my wallet.

I suspect some of it is that the golden age of gospel corresponds largely to the 1950s, which is also the height of atomic mania — both in terms of the possibilities it offered & the fears it produced.

I began this with some Washington Phillips, so I'll end with a Dixie Hummingbirds cover of perhaps his best known song.

The recordings Cooke cut as a member of the Soul Stirrers are interesting because they're almost all gospel numbers, delivered in a soul style.

And then suddenly right in the middle is "I'll Come Running Back to You," which is most definitely not.

I was actually looking for the version by the New Gospel Keys, but I couldn't find it so you get Harry Belafonte instead.

I definitely had trouble hitting platforms with the diagonal attack. Bosses were a bit easier, since they're so big.

But I also switched to the beast crest as soon as I could, and I mostly just use that unless I absolutely can't.

Which ones?

(And yeah, some of the runbacks are annoying.)

Pairs well with their "sake" section, which contains mostly soju & a handful of flavoured sakes.

Ah, my local LCBO. Which has a section labelled "vermouth" that contains: amaro, frenet, absinthe, Campari, Aperol, Jäger, and melon liqueur (?). But no vermouth.
