People still don't understand this isn't about one plastic box or the other. Microsoft has transitioned the Xbox business so it doesn't rely on console sales anymore. As long as Xbox owners get all the games (and they will, given the PC hybrid future), it will only benefit players on every platform.

This has been quite obvious for a good while now. Not subsidized device, more expensive than a traditional console but cheaper and more energy-efficient than a similarly specced PC, will play Xbox and PC games alike with a controller. I'm in for this, as long as they really bring it to market.

I will certainly buy the next Xbox as I have 20+ years of investment and digital console library on the platform. As long as they truly make it and make it widely available of course. Cheaper than a gaming PC, having a device that plays all my games and also Steam games is a no-brainer for me.

I think the game is the perfect example of the disconnect between technical analysts and active gamers. At present, solid performance and good image quality is more important than "advanced graphical features" for the mainstream and I'm glad the devs made all the right choices for this title.

I think we can stop calling them generations. Games are scalable and in order to make money the goal is to run on everything. Gone are the days of groundbreaking innovations that required brand new hardware. Games will look and run better on future hardware but they'll be the same base experiences.

I think @dark1x.bsky.social is wrong about Xbox. Microsoft is not interested in selling many Xboxes anymore. Future devices will be Windows PCs, not subsidized and there won't be a separate "console" platform. Technically everyone will be a PC player so selling many units will not be a priority.

They would have to renew the Daytona licence for it which I assume they don't want. They could always re-release it with the "Sega Racing Classic" name as it was originally in the arcades, and how they did Daytona USA 2 in Like a Dragon Gaiden.

Sadly yes. I still have it though, I'd never dare to uninstall. One of the most influential games in my life and I still play it regularly to this day.
