Concluding the week in Johannesburg, the Africa Senate for Methodist Education (ASME), a collaborative effort between AAMIHE and AAUMTI, held its first in-person meeting. ASME aims to evaluate and support the development of Methodist education across Africa.
The associations focused on the theme "Pan-African Collaborative Partnerships for Sustainable Development of Higher Education Institutions." The Board of Directors of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU) joined the conference.

Yesterday, in his report to the boards of GBHEM, UMCOR and GBGM, General Secretary Roland Fernandes shared how both agencies are strengthening their alignment and faithfully responding to increased needs in vulnerable communities worldwide.

A pioneering partnership between Garrett Evangelical-Theological Seminary and Africa University is reshaping how theological education is delivered globally, thanks to a $400,000 grant from the Ministerial Education Fund (MEF) administered by GBHEM.
With the support of a scholarship made possible by the World Communion Sunday offering, the Rev. Yav Mbay, an Africa University student, plans to use his education in conflict transformation to be an instrument of peace and change in his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Study USA program allows students from Northern Ireland to study abroad at church-related institutions in the United States, enriching the lives of the students and the American institutions they attend.
GBHEM's Director of Education, the Rev. Dr. Tammy Gieselman, was among the delegates, as well as presidents from four United Methodist-related, University Senate-listed colleges and universities — Dakota Wesleyan University, Lindsey Wilson College, Hendrix College and DePauw University.
Celebrating 30 years of Study USA!
 
In early September, United Methodist leaders in higher education joined with delegates from Presbyterian and Catholic higher education institutions to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Study USA partnership with the British Council in Northern Ireland.
Over the last 5 years, the generosity of United Methodists through the BCF has strengthened Paine College by supporting the renovation of facilities and innovative programming & academic enrichment activities, such as the Conference on the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Executive Exchange Program.
Established in 1882, Paine College is one of 11 HBCUs affiliated with The United Methodist Church and supported by the Black College Fund (BCF). Paine’s mission centers on empowering students through liberal arts education and leadership development.
