Epstein-Barr Virus is implicated with MS, which is both an inflammatory and autoimmune condition, so this makes sense. The virus hides and lies dormant and can be activated by other infections and stress, triggering relapses or flare-ups. Why not for other conditions?

Shame they didn't spend more time playing Tetris.

I've just heard Amol say he hasn't heard anyone talk positively about migration for ages, which says an awful lot about who he's been choosing to listen to, and what research he chooses to read.

It's hard to tell the presenters apart on The Today Programme anymore. I miss the days when there was evidence of informed journalism.

There are a few notable exceptions who are heard in UK news reports, but sadly, when they are, their well evidenced content is usually drowned out with "balance."

I complained to the BBC that this was only very briefly nationally and only on "Wales" news online. Pathetic response, so I've complained about the response and doubled down. This would be on every news bulletin and brought up in every political interview for weeks if it were any other party.

As a 60 year old woman late diagnosed with ADHD and MS, I have mistrust and cynicism ingrained in my nervous system, so I've always checked authors and sources. I was surprised and shocked when I discovered nobody else did.

The BBC used to communicate with us as curious people wanting to be informed and educated. It's news, and most current affairs output hasn't done anything close since 2016.

Children being able to think critically might enable them to question why their parents believe flying flags are more important than them volunteering their skills for their community and youth groups.

My next-door neighbour is a beater and has pheasants strung up in the back garden all season.
gerbelean.bsky.social
He doesn't want children to be taught the critical thinking skills that could challenge the radicalisation or indoctrination of their parents.

This should be regularly featured on the BBC.

A few months ago, my 64 year old brother accused me of "trying to cancel" him when I asked him to stop posting Bernard Manning and Roy Chubby Brown YT videos on the family group chat. He hasn't spoken to me since. I remember the time when even he understood this stuff was unacceptable.

Unbelievable that TikTok & Insta are amplifying 1970s ‘jokes’ about N*****s & P***s to a whole new generation.

Bernard Manning, of all people, is back in fashion…

Bernard Manning rides again: how TikTok and Instagram are promoting racist “jokes” to teens

Sketches from the 70s & 80s featuring slurs including the N word are going viral on social media, shared by millions and boosted by algorithms

I heard the term QIMBY the other day, and it made me think of Lib Dems and Greens. It means Quality In My Back Yard.

Return to work. I also needed Access to Work. The additional stress took a toll on my both my kids. My son became seriously anxious, and it aggravated my daughter's hEDS. We all ended up costing more for want of a bit of care and support.
gerbelean.bsky.social
I wasn't. In a time of major stress for us, it took the LA 10 weeks to find carers, but by then, the assessor decided we were managing fine on our own. It took 3 months to regain some movement in my left limbs, 9 before I moved "normally," and they still play up sometimes. I was off sick then phased
gerbelean.bsky.social
I've just paid for mine because I want to maintain my independence. When I had the bad relapse that got me diagnosed, my then teenage kids had to look after me and themselves whilst starting their levels. By the time the LA found a firm that covered my village, I was deemed well enough to manage.

I have MS and no longer qualify. It doesn't make sense as we could both cost the NHS considerably more than 95 quid if we get Covid.
gerbelean.bsky.social
What if slagging off arts and humanities degrees is deliberate. The only way AI companies are going to make money is after they've stolen all the art and literature will be if no one can think critically or know how to create art or question why not.

Try putting it all in an email. Reference the neurologist's request for more information and then proceed to tell them everything you're experiencing. The MS Trust and MS Society websites are helpful for symptoms and terminology. They'll either write the referral from it or call you in.

They online exercise programme I'm a member of is @themsgym.bsky.social. It isn't active here, but they are on IG, FB, and YouTube. It's US based with lots of UK members. They're a supportive and positive group and no talk of managed decline. And it's helped me enormously.
gerbelean.bsky.social
Can I suggest writing it all down, bullet point style, and give it to the GP. The symptoms are varied, and GPs aren't always across it. In the meantime, gentle breathing exercises will help calm the sympathetic NS and activate the parasympathetic NS. It can be scary, so do feel free to contact me.

I've read that people on the hypermobile spectrum and / or neurodivergents are overrepresented in the LC cohort. There's a lot of HSD in my MS exercise group, too. The HSDers tend to have more spasticity and vestibular issues.
gerbelean.bsky.social
I'm hypermobile, EBV at 16, followed by years of CFS. Weird aches and pains in my 30s/40s were diagnosed as depression/anxiety. MS diagnosis at 50, ADHD at 56. Neurologist reckons I'd had MS since my early 20s. My daughter has hEDS, CFS, and ADHD. It's all connected.

This is kind of nimbyism I want to see stopped.
