1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty

The National Guard mainly exists for domestic purposes as a compact where Governors agree to help each other in cases of disasters.

It runs on trust and norms of reciprocity.

Antifa...isn't a single group but a loose network of activists who oppose far-right/fascist movements. They organize protests, counter-rallies, and sometimes direct action against white supremacist groups/far-right events. Trump says he's moving to designate them “A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.”

No law authorizes the president to designate something as a domestic terrorist org (only a foreign terrorist org), so it will be interesting to see what law he invokes here (if any).

“Domestic terrorism” is more of a concept than anything with a legal underpinning.
